I sense in what I see and hear that there is a small mobilization going on with "independent" voters. They don't like Trump but they didn't like Hillary either. As their name might indicate, they are "independent". But, I think they lean slightly Democratic? Many of them seem to like and respect Bernie Sanders? In my opinion, a lot of them are the same age group as the millennials.
But this could be an opportunity for Democrats, in my opinion. We should be cautious in criticizing this group of voters or who they may be supporting at this time. They are open to change. The Democratic Party needs them to take back the House of Representatives and the Senate...but especially the House. Bernie is an important key in communicating with them, in my opinion.
Is anyone else hearing these drumbeats? Or am I out here alone in the wilderness?

(5,191 posts)Put the GOP on notice: You have no idea what storm is gathering and coming straight for you in 2018!
Oh, and Ms. Pelosi: Impeachment is most definitely on tbe table this time!

(389 posts)Somehow, we need to go into the hardest hit voter suppression areas and
have some sort of way to gather people together and insure voters are properly registered.
Like a true Election Assistance program, but run by Dems.
And yes, it's time Dems 'welcome their anger' (i.e. start fighting tooth and nail).

(21,055 posts)There are people who need help getting copies of their birth certificates , making an appointment at the dmv to get an ID, paying for the Id and getting registered to vote.
I live in the blue state of California that makes it easy to vote but in those red states the people need help. Those who live in red states can adopt a potential voter and get them help getting that ID. I would donate to an organization that helps people get ids and resister to vote. Start a new"acorn" organization for potential new voters. No federal money but funded by donations by fellow Americans.

(389 posts)CA runs a tight ship but still could use some improvements.
Yes, your idea about IDs is also necessary. An organization like Acorn but with many other
functions like you, I,and others have suggested. This would be a major means to right the ship
of stolen elections.

(65,616 posts)it is all our faults as is their SOP. And when they fail (and they will fail) we swoop in and present reality based government and win back seats and then some.

(6,042 posts)This election cycle is going to change the electorate in one important and positive way--the willingness of the electorate to put up with "campaign rhetoric" as just statements a candidate doesn't really mean and never intends to actually do.
I think is it better to face facts. The Great Lake states did not turn red over the last 6 years because independents there did not like Clinton. The Republican Party did not gain 0ver 1000 seats over the last eight years because independents did not like Clinton.
Clinton could have won those last 100,000 votes in crucial areas if Clinton had simply changed one item in her foreign policy stance-she could have become, to paraphrase Trump, Putin's new BFF.

(637 posts)The Dem's have NO chance of taking the senate in 2018. What's worse, the Rep's could end up with 60 seats. If the Dem's don't take the House (extremely difficult) we're royally screwed - forever. Everyone should be out NOW registering voters. I've registered 3 in the last 2 weeks. The new DNC should be asking everyone who has demonstrated (and those who support them) to get out NOW and register at least one voter.

(111,052 posts)The national Party did get almost 3 million more votes than Donald Trump. They just need to tighten up the ship a bit and these voters are looking for a home, in my opinion.

(50,529 posts)The GOP has several problems they're going to have to contend with in a very short period of time - a drastic drop in the stock market, their unwillingness to replace Obamacare, no ability (or desire, for that matter) to create jobs... Also remember: they have to defend the man-child in the White House.
We need two seats to pull even in the Senate. I feel good about Nevada. I feel okay about Arizona...remember, we managed to defeat Sheriff-for-Life Arpaio. And I have high hopes for Texas. In the other red states, Trump faces the same Pony Shortage Obama did in 2010: because Trump has no possible way to deliver everything he wants to do (even Republicans aren't that crazy), a lot of Trump voters will stay home in 11/2018. We MUST be there to exploit it.

(4,492 posts)In a special election to decide control of the DE state senate, the Democrat won by 18 points when the race was decided by 2 in 2014. Turnout exceeded 2014 levels.
GA-06 is the one to watch.

By all rights Bernie should be our President right the fuck now. IMO
