Kimmel SHOULD come back next year.

Jimmy was not only wicked funny, he made the Oscars more of a people's ceremony than it ever has been before(especially with the bit where he brought the "Hollywood tour bus" group up to the front of the house and let them meet the celebs-that was genius)...and it wasn't his fault the Best Picture announcement was screwed-up.

1. That was possibly the worst Oscar show of all time, even before the mixup at the end

And I'm including the Franco/Hathaway disaster of a few years ago. Sure, it's not entirely Kimmel's fault but he does bear a good portion of the blame. He had some decent lines but he's not multifaceted as an entertainer and this was not his format. There was no sparkle, the repetitive bits (Matt Damon feud etc.) were tiresome, and overall the show was pretty flat. The tour bus thing was cringeworthy, I thought. And, then of course, that train wreck of an ending to cap it off. He won't be back.

2. If he had nothing to do with the envelopes I don't understand how you can blame him.

If he handed them the wrong envelope then for sure he shouldn't be back. He did his best to apologize for something that probably wasn't his fault.

I'm saying even before that the show was terrible. Starting with the idiotic decision to have Timberlake open the show with a song performance, complete with ringers in the audience trying to get attendees to dance (was this the Grammys? Kids Choice Awards?), to Kimmel's lackluster hosting, the bland scripting for presenters, ill-conceived gags like the snack parachutes...it was just poorly done. Much of the blame lies with Michael de Luca and Jennifer Todd who were first-time Oscar producers. But their first mistake was hiring Kimmel to host.

10. Justin Timberlake is OK and all, but I agree with you.

That opening sequence had nothing to do with the film industry. It could have been on any other show or it could have been part of the Today Show's summer concert series.

I guess I'm just a middle-aged curmudgeon (well... I know I am, actually)... but Billy Crystal's parodies of the nominated films and his silly opening song at least were timely references to the industry and to that year's films.

13. JT sang a grammy nominated song - that means it was in a movie

It was a lively open that was at least upbeat and contemporary. These awards shows are losing viewership by not appealing to a younger crowd - sorry. Opening with a dance and tap number is not gonna make it anymore.

It got people happy and excited. It was a fun song, and that's what Timberlake does.

People are already talking about what a disaster it was. When Kimmel said at the end, "don't worry, I won't be back," he was telling the truth. Same for this year's producers, I suspect.

themselves and I actually thought the tour bus was typical Jimmy Fallon and funny. Maybe it's my sense of humor.

11. OK, he got that moment wrong-although his tone there was gently teasing, not mean-spirited.

"What's not funny about making fun of people's names?"

I imagine it's all taste... and if it isn't race, disability or gender, it's fair game.

But not having grown up with the name, 'Scrotus Tuwilliger', I s'pose I simply haven't yet lived life to its fullest.
