These Iowans voted for Trump. Many of them are already disappointed.

By Jenna Johnson February 26 at 6:30 PM

CLINTON, Iowa — Tom Godat, a union electrician who has always voted for Democrats, cast his ballot for Donald Trump last year as “the lesser of two evils” compared to Hillary Clinton.

He’s already a little embarrassed about it.

There’s a lot that Godat likes about President Trump, especially his pledge to make the country great again by ignoring lobbyists, challenging both political parties and increasing the number of good-paying jobs. But Godat was surprised by the utter chaos that came with the president’s first month. He said it often felt like Trump and his staff were impulsively firing off executive orders instead of really thinking things through.

“I didn’t think he would come in blazing like he has,” said Godat, 39, who has three kids and works at the same aluminum rolling plant where his father worked. “It seems almost like a dictatorship at times. He’s got a lot of controversial stuff going on and rather than thinking it through, I’m afraid that he’s jumping into the frying pan with both feet.”

The information I have found breaks down the voters who voted for asshat as follows-
25.6% of eligible voters, voted for him. Of that number
9% AA
30% Latino/Cuban
Asian Americans voted 29% for asshat, that is to say, 29% of the total number of Asians who voted. I have yet to find what percent of the 25.65% that constitutes. I'm assuming 7.42%
Asshat got 42% of the female vote total.
Please tell me where you get 53% of white women? Is it 53% of the 42%?
If the 25.6% is the 100% of people who voted for DT and I subtract 30%, 9%, 7.4%?(Asian vote) what am I left with? 100-45.4 equals @54.6% white people, approximately. Which does not equate to 53% of white women. As we know more white men voted for DT than women.
It is misleading to say 53% of white women voted for him without a second qualification.
A statistic has at least two parameters- 53% of white women who voted? Which is not simply 53% of white women. That would assume that 100% of white women voted, which I doubt as only @58% of eligible voters voted.
The only figure that makes sense is the percent of white women of the total percent of women who voted for DT, which is 53% of 42% which is 22.26%.
Does anyone have different info?

53% of the white women who cast a ballot for president in 2016, voted for Donald Trump.

42% of all women who cast a ballot for president in 2016 voted for Donald Trump.

Those are your apple data sets.

The number of eligible voters who cast a ballot in the election (or did not) are your oranges.

You could use the data to figure the percentage of white women eligible to vote who cast a ballot for Trump, but that is not the population represented by the cited figure of 53% of the white female vote received.

I hope this helps a little?

For white women in particular, now is the time to look in the mirror. Ninety-four percent of black women voted for Hillary Clinton. Sixty-eight percent of Latina women did so. But 53 percent of the white female voters in this country voted for Donald Trump.

It's as though they filtered what 45 said through some kind of translation device in their heads, so they could make it sound like something else.

Then when he actually does what he said he would do, they don't get it.

That is a very special brand of idiocy and mental illness.

The average income of a Trump voter was $75,000 a year. The idea that the only people that voted for Trump were poor white trash that are uneducated is simply not the truth. If we keep on pushing the idea into the public that all of the people that voted for Trump are poor white trash, we will never win back the once Democratic voters that voted for Trump. And, no matter how much we hate to admit such, we desperately need those voters back in 2018 and 2020.

Basically says, a) Trump is fucking up the farm economy, which is true, b) He likes much of what Trump is doing and, c) People need to stop protesting and give him a chance:

“He’s really hurting us, even though everybody around here is conservative,” Schurbon said, thumping his bottle of Budweiser on the table to emphasize some of his points. “When you cut off trade, that cuts off everything. Where do our crops go? They don’t stay here.”

But still, Schurbon likes much of what Trump is doing — and he wishes protesters would give him a break. The day before, hundreds descended on an event hosted by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) just up the road in Maquoketa.

“Everybody might at least try. At least a little bit. Just try and help,” he said. “You don’t have to agree with him, but you don’t have to just completely block him, everything he’s doing.”

He also falls asleep watching Fox every night.

Godat commutes more than 30 miles south to Bettendorf, where he gets paid a base wage of $34 per hour to help prepare aluminum used for airplanes and cars. There’s a shortage of trained electricians, and last year Godat said he worked 600 overtime hours, bringing his total pay to about $110,000. His wife provides in-home care for the elderly.

“He’s doing what he said he was going to do, that’s the biggest thing,” said Tyler Schurbon, 23, who describes himself as a “progressive Republican” who falls asleep watching Fox News each night. “A lot of people get into the presidency, and they just completely forget what they talked about.”

Schurbon trims trees for power companies, a full-time union job that pays $60,000 per year and full benefits. He drives a nice pickup truck and bought a two-story farmhouse for $50,000 last year.

“That’s pretty good living for not having a college degree,” Schurbon said.
