Rosie O'Donnell to lead anti-Trump rally at the White House
By Judy Kurtz - 02/27/17 11:36 AM EST
Rosie ODonnell plans to lead a protest against President Trump outside the White House just hours before he delivers his first address to Congress.
The Broadway vet and former daytime talk show host will be among the thousands expected at Tuesdays Resistance Address, according to guidance sent out by organizers. The effort is aimed at sending a clear message outside of Trumps front door that his agenda does not represent the values of the American people, a news release says.
The rally will feature speakers from diverse organizations and groups of people who have been impacted and harmed by the Trump administrations policies, including women, people of color and members of the LGBTQ community, as well as environmental and immigrants' rights groups, according to a statement.
Organizations participating in the rally in Washingtons Lafayette Park include the American Civil Liberties Union, MoveOn.org, Food & Water Watch, National Nurses United and Our Revolution, among others.
ODonnell and Trump have been engaged in a longtime, ongoing war of words. Trump, 70, once called the 54-year-old comedian a pig, saying during a presidential debate last year that ODonnell deserved his verbal attacks. ODonnell has dubbed Trump mentally unstable and has accused him of treason.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer said that the theme of Trumps Tuesday address to Congress which isnt technically a State of the Union will be renewal of the American spirit.
