Butte police arrested a man at 11 p.m. Saturday who admitted on the way to jail that he had 22 prior DUI convictions in various states, authorities said.
Clinton Sproles, 54, was arrested on the 700 block of Front Street after a traffic stop for DUI refusal, driving with a revoked license and violating parole. Police were originally responding to a domestic disturbance and found Sproles driving away.
Police said Sproles was not involved in the domestic disturbance, but smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. Sproles refused a Breathalyzer test, claiming they are untrustworthy, and requested a blood test instead, according to police.
Butte police were unable to immediately verify Sproles claim of 22 prior DUI convictions, but are working with the Butte-Silver Bow County Attorney's office to determine the extent of Sproles' criminal history and believe the number to be at least roughly accurate.

(112,070 posts)I agree that the correct course of action is to either avoid driving while DUI or more importantly stop drinking altogether. I suspect that he has harmed the lives of plenty of other people with his alcoholism.
