Yesterday my daughter was threatened by a Trump supporter.

She was coming home from school late. She had a meeting...it was hailing here and she blinked her bright lights on and off in order to see better...she is a very cautious driver...the guy some ways in front of her blocked her car at the exit by turning sideways...he approached her car...at first she thought he needed help...but he launched into an unhinged tirade about the lights...and she was terrified. The man is very lucky I was not driving...if some person blocked my car and got out and threatened me.. I would have warned him as I called 911 not to come any closer...if he did, I would run him over...I am so angry. I wanted to call the cops...there is a camera near there, but she doesn't want to...he is dangerous and will hurt someone...she could have been rammed by another driver getting off the highway...the visibility was very poor. He had one one of those make America great stupid caps on his obviously fat head. Ohio is open carry and some of these folks are very dangerous.

I drive a lot and I have been threatened 3 times just lately. I wasn't doing anything but driving down the road doing the speed limit and staying right.

People thought I wasn't going fast enough. Once I was waiting for traffic to clear before making left. Guy didn't think I turned fast enough. He gunned his engine, laid on the horn and threatened to ram me.

Scary out there.

I drive a 4 lane divided highway (but not limited access) to and from work. I had a guy flip me off because i was doing 50 in a 55 and when he caught up to me, there was someone else in the left lane, going a little faster than me, but no room for him to get around me. When that car cleared, he got to the left lane, shot ahead of me, flipped me off and ducked into the right lane just when the first car that passed me was trying to merge right. That person had to swing back to the left.

So, he nearly drives into my trunk, passes two cars going 15 or 20 above the speed limit, nearly causes an accident and he flips me off!

Go figure.

Mar 2017

I was probably doing 40 on the ramp and headed for the freeway - not very far at all. I looked in the mirror and a truck was right on my backend. When I merged into traffic - in the right hand lane - he whipped around me, honking his horn and then roared off down the highway. I wasn't doing anything wrong.

That same day I was just driving along doing 55 (the speed limit in the downtown area) and in the right hand lane. I had a car go whizzing around me, pulled into the left lane and then back into the right lane. The passenger was hanging out the windows clear up to his waist, flipping me off and yelling.

It is just bizarre stuff. I am being really careful now. I try to stay just as far away from other drivers as I can. I give everyone a whole lot of room.

We had a case here in KC (I think it was here but I may be wrong) where a man got mad because a grandmother took too long at a stop sign. He pulled around and fired into her car killing her toddler grandson.

Thu Mar 2, 2017, 04:20 PM
Mar 2017

the "let it all out" fad in, I think, the 1980s, where it was supposed to be healthy to express negative emotions rather than keep them bottled up? Turned out that indulging negative emotions INCREASES them. And 45's election is clearly being taken by some as permission for acting out.

I don't drive a lot now, but as an appraiser I did. I drove fast all over Southern California, Accelerate, switch lanes, cut back in, brake, accelerate--usually to fast dance music on the radio. Some honking here and there, but I was monitoring traffic as far as I could see and at least no one could complain I was holding them up. The most memorable interactions were actually with people who were doing the same thing--they'd get on my tail and follow my lead, or I'd do theirs.

That said, when stopping in questionable or downright bad neighborhoods I always left room to the front and side (left lane) to be able to peel out if needed. Being blocked from moving is potentially dangerous. I wasn't afraid, just sensibly proactive.

I am today also--by not displaying liberal stickers in any neighborhood. Only a few of those people are potentially dangerous or would vandalize, but the hazard is real.

We've been in the South of France for the past 8 weeks, driving on secondary roads, toll roads (130KPH - 81mph top speed), Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, etc.
Have had a couple of locals get pretty close but no honks, no flashes, no gestures.
People here, for the most part, keep to the speed limits - mainly because enforcement is electronic via radar cameras, and too many tickets and there goes your license. And random breathalyser stops are very common.

And despite the fact that Provence-Alpes-Cotes d'Azur drivers are statistically the worst in France.

and not paying attention. I've gotten so tired of not making a light because I waited politely for the person in front of me to cautiously go, only to get stuck because they were twitting or updating facebook or whatever people do on their phones at lights.

I'd personally like for traffic to move a lot faster, but I think the laws that need the most enforcing are those requiring people to pay attention to their driving, not the emails and faxes on their phones.

I completely ignored his comments, which angered him more. After several more comments I ignored, including "What, you think you're too good to speak to someone talking to you?" he said Trump was going to "finally do something about you liberal hippie potheads".

My neighbor had a bunch of those blow up Christmas front yard decorations. Really pretty good size ones. One even had some kind of blower in the middle of it that made the white shavings in it look like snow flurries. The asshole went from my yard to my neighbors and stuck a knife in each of my neighbors blow up ornaments. Flattened them like a tire. lol. My neighbor had hd cameras and caught it all. Not only did my neighbor turn the video over to the police, they uploaded them to the Nextdoor Neighbor App. I started the app for our neighborhood so it was exciting watching it all go down. It was a Trump supporter a couple of blocks over. Hard to mistake his jacked up jeep. Now everyone in the neighborhood knows who it was. Not sure of how the charges worked out in the end.

With me he just stole my Clinton merchandise I had posted in the front yard. He usually just threw them a couple of houses down. Each morning I would just walk down the street, get them, and put them back in my yard.

It doesn't have anything to do with the person they are picking on. Such encounters with Trump supporters can be considered random shit. It's almost certainly for the best your daughter did not respond in kind.

My battered salvage title mid-eighties car screams "don't fuck with the crazy guy" which I probably shouldn't be proud of, but I haven't experienced any road rage directed at me for a long, long time. I don't get angry at other drivers, even when they do something silly like bumping into me in a parking lot, or something dangerous like an unsafe lane change. But heck yeah, overly aggressive drivers unhinged have sometimes scared me.

Anger and driving are a bad mix. There's a lot of people out on the roads who voted for Trump because they are always angry, an anger which is often fueled by hate radio and television.
