At his Senate confirmation hearing, Attorney General Jeff Sessions lied under oath that he had never had contact with the Russian government as a surrogate for the Trump campaign.

We now know that he met with Russian officials at the Republican National Convention, right as they were engaging in cyberattacks to influence the election in favor of Donald Trump.

As the nation's top law enforcement official, Jeff Sessions has completely violated our trust. He must resign, and his successor appoint a special prosecutor to fully and openly investigate the Trump campaign's ties with Russian officials.

Our focus should be on getting a good special prosecutor on the case.


Sen. Franken's question included the phrase "in the course of this campaign". He didn't ask something simple like "Did you meet with anyone representing the interests of the Russian government?".

If he had then Sessions' answer would have been wrong. Because the question included the qualifier "in the course of this campaign" he has an out. As long as Sessions sticks to his story that the meetings were in keeping with his responsibilities as Senator, not as a member of the campaign, he is safe. Unless of course someone else in the meeting says it was about the campaign, but I think there is very little hope of that.


It was a long, drawn out, almost rambling question. It should have been shorter and more to the point.

His recusal is what we needed out of this, and we got it.

5. Of course he won't resign. He has a big job to do, raiding legal marijuana businesses and putting

pot smokers in federal prison.
