To most people, admitting that you have been conned is not comfortable. Instead we make excuses. So I feel most people who voted for our current Resident won't even listen to news that is counter to their convictions.

As Lincoln said, you can fool some of the people all of the time.

(9,670 posts)Seems the accusers 1) don't know the difference between real crimes and fake ones; and 2) don't know how to behave when it's their guy ensnared in the scales of justice.
Everyone Trumpie I know wants to blame this on the Democrats, when it's so painfully obvious that Trump and the Republicans are complicit in anti-American, felonious activities.
Their downfall, and the downfall of their adoring public, will be a feast for the eyes and spirit.

(4,835 posts)Is that in 1929 when Herbert Hoover took office, America was encouraged. Hoover was a successful businessman, had never served in public office (so, he was kind of an outsider) the stock market was booming, his motto was a chicken in every pot.
Then the stock market crashed, America sunk into the Great Depression and the republicans didn't get full control of the White House, the senate, and the house for a long time.
There will likely be a recession in the next two years, the democrats will take over the house and senate, and Trump will likely be gone by then.
His approval rating is under 40%, some people will never turn on him, but enough will turn on him that we will get control of the government back.

(47,285 posts)Supporters will gradually quiet down, but few will admit they were wrong. Maybe years from now, they'll admit they were conned, but for now, we can anticipate that at least they will eventually stop defending him and berating Democrats.

(2,434 posts)admit they voted for him. This will take time and I can only hope and pray that it takes less time than it did in the '70's. I listen to RW talk radio and these people will be slow to come around, but they will come around. Be patient. Don't push it down their throats or they will fight. Let it trickle and they will eventually see the error of their ways.

(3,145 posts)They are so heavily invested in Trump that if he fails, they fail. It would transcend embarrassment - the typical Trumpanzee's ego would be gravely, if not fatally, wounded if their Orangey Messiah were to be brought down.
Like cultists and fundamentalists who are confronted with proof that contradicts their beliefs, Trumpanzees will double down and defend him even harder.

(100,043 posts)They've been brainwashed into thinking he's a good leader by the likes of the right wing conspiracy-sphere like Breitbart, Infowars, Prison Planet, and Fox News. You know - the "liberal media" that they're used to blasting. And now they don't believe in facts because their leader has convinced them that facts aren't a thing anymore. It's scary.

(82,849 posts)Conservatives are just now coming around to the idea that the invasion of Iraq may not have been the genius military move they all thought it was 15 years ago. Not that those dirty fucking hippies were right all along, mind you. But if you listen to them when they get all nostalgic and historical, you might think that there was nobody in the White House between Bill Clinton and Barack Obama; it's like the Bush administration never existed.
I think the same thing will happen with President Trump. By 2022, you will be hard pressed to find anyone who voted for him. Or who will at least admit it.

(13,776 posts)I can't, because 1) and 2) there would be complaints from other people in the room with me.
But I've been wondering whether FOX is reporting on this at all.
