Did Sessions mean to say a double negative when he denied his "communications" with the Russians?

A transcript says:

Sessions: "Senator Franken, I'm not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I didn't have — did not have communications with the Russians, and I'm unable to comment on it."

Was he really trying to say,"I did not not have communications...."

It's subtle but it's an obvious lie.

He is an attorney. They obsess over every word. They obsess over commas. Spoken and written words mean everything to them and they are trained to always think about liability. Just sayin.

Franken was just asking if he would recuse himself.

Almost always is the lie and/or coverup that gets them in trouble not the wrongful act.

how he was going to answer that question. His rehearsed answer for "the Russians" didn't fit the question.

when he said, "and i'm unable to comment on it"?

What is "it"? You're not able to comment on not having any communications with "the Russians"?

Prosecutors/investigating agencies have policies against disclosing existence of investigations, so as to keep public and subjects uninformed.

defendant.

Proves he's not up to the job, even if he's innocent, which he's certainly not.
