We don't need one freaking vote from a Deplorable in 2020 to win. Don't ever forget that. And given the fact his base is aged some of them will have died off by then.

(1,849 posts)I live in the south, and have seen way too many under age trmp supporters, and they will replace those that die off, probably exceed them. And they will support the repugs in future elections, so we need to be active and diligent to counter them. Still there are more of us who did not vote repug (but not where I live). But even here, there is a wave of disapproval that gives me hope.

(10,500 posts)I don't know what you define as the southeast, but I would consider Florida and North Carolina to be in that region. And I think that we are turning those states. Cubans in Florida are more liberal than their parents. And the younger generation in North Carolina seems very liberal.
We would have won both of those states had in not been for the FBI intervention on Trump's behalf to rig the election.
Also, we are seeing some positive signs in Georgia.

(10,500 posts)NC is definitely trending Democrat IMO. I have no doubt we would have won it had it not been for James Comey and the FBI intervention. We led in every single NC poll until the very end.
Comey dramatically altered the race. He didn't turn a narrow victory into a narrow defeat--he turned a decisive victory into a narrow defeat.
And the Demographics continue to move in our favor. The state is becoming more diverse. And the younger generation of whites is more liberal than their parents, even if some are also hardcore conservatives.
I am extremely confident that we will win North Carolina in 2020. I am also confident that we can win back the legislature in the 2017 special election, assuming the Supreme Court doesn't stop it from moving forward. Finally, I believe that we will defeat Thom Tillis in 2020.
