(9,670 posts)As with Bill Clinton, the crime is the false swearing under oath, not the content of the underlying crime.
And the more we learn, the more it appears that the defenses potentially available to Sessions do not apply.
LOCK. HIM. UP.

(14,961 posts)I think it was Stephen Colbert that called him,"baby grandpa", everytime I see him, those words go through my mind. Quite perfect for him.

(17,984 posts)I was discussing with a friend what tiny comedian Sessions has always reminded me of.
Any suggestions? Baby Grandpa fits.

(14,563 posts)the standards that democrats are held to are whatever insanely deranged bullshit standard the lunatics come up with in any given moment.
Their truth is relative. It is what ever they want it to be at that moment.

Nope. This is war.

(135,425 posts)That dawg just will not hunt. I'm a bit disappointed that Ellison is continuing to pursue this line--he should know better and probably does. It's fine to keep hammering on the FACT that he LIED, but they didn't get Ashcroft for the same thing, in similar circumstances, either, and they wisely didn't even try. Legislators are allowed to lie in the workplace, basically--that's the bottom line. Even under oath. You can charge them till the cows come home, you can even find them guilty, but you're not going to PUNISH them for it, unless you want to change a founding document.
Art 1 Sec 6 of the US Constitution, like it or not, gives ABSOLUTE protection to the speech of a sitting legislator within the halls of Congress--and it doesn't matter if they are speaking to give or receive testimony or in debate on the floor. The phrase "with impunity" and "shall not be questioned in any other place" are not ambiguous.
The door opens for prosecution when one looks at the possibility of TREASON, though (no "Get Outta Jail Free" card for that) --but there's many a slip twixt cup and lip.
The smart move is to keep focusing on the CONDUCT--he lied, he lied, he lied. He's not honorable--he tried to hoodwink us, he didn't tell the truth, he's untrustworthy, blah blah blah etc. etc. and so forth.

(1,204 posts)We need to know the names of ALL of the characters involved with Russian involvement in the 2016 sElection. Sessions is the first, but Trump, the son-in-law, Paul Ryan, Mitch McC, R.Prebus had some knowledge and ALL should face the legal consequences. The next Trump Hotel will be the new wing at Leavenworth Federal Prison.
...and then, the Supreme Court needs to nullify this 2016 sElection. That's an essential step to getting the US back to normal.

(15,642 posts)I'm glad to see a prominent Democrat playing hardball right back at 'em. It's all about messaging -- lies and liar are passe; the public already believes all politicians lie -- lying has become accepted. Criminal behavior amounting to possible treason is another story though -- the message needs to be JAIL TIME for the Attorney Gebneral -- and anyone else in on the game.
