Shall we all laugh at this Deplorable clown at once:
The information that was posted on the Iowa Senate Republicans website used to suggest that Mark Chelgren, a state lawmaker, held a business degree.
But that wasnt exactly the case, according to NBC News and other media outlets, which this week reported that Chelgren instead held a certificate for a training program for the chain restaurant Sizzler.
Still, Chelgren a Republican who represents the Iowa Senates 41st District in the southeastern part of the state told the Associated Press that he didnt mean to mislead people.
I know theyve changed that, because apparently a degree and a certificate are different, Chelgren told AP. And Im okay with their change, but there was never any intent at all to mislead anyone.

(9,350 posts)What you mentioned in your post and what Chelgren said in the original post makes me wonder how people like him get elected. How do you say that illegal immigrants should be "subject to capital punishment" and still get elected? How does someone who seems to not know the difference between a degree and a certificate get elected? Maybe he was just joking about the degree/certificate issue, but it is still crazy for him to even pretend to not know the difference between a degree and a certificate.

(81,404 posts)This guy is a shameless crook and an opportunist. I think he knew exactly what he was doing as far as a corporate training certificate vs. a real university degree.

The fine lines between lying, ignorance and sheer stoopidity is obvious here.

Then again, he is probably a Republican congressman now with that kind of behavior. A few more spitballs and he could have been President.
