One week ago I spent a bunch of money getting my plumbing worked on. I have a well with an above ground pump. The pump is now cutting of and on every 15 seconds or so 15-20 seconds. What should I do? Should I shut it down? Let it run? I'm so pissed the work only lasted a week. Can you help me, please?
Thank you.
Update on 15 off 15. I don't think it will last all night like this!

(22,632 posts)Freeze waring tonight. Hopefully nothing will burst. I won't get a wink of sleep now. I really appreciate you being "Johnny on the spot" as my Grandmother would say. Thanks again.

(1,063 posts)wouldn't shut off overheated etc.Needed to be primed. Your problem could be a few things. Last poster had good advice. Warranty should be honored.

(2,857 posts)I would turn it off and call the person that worked on it back out in the morning. They should warranty the job at least a month. Could be electrical supply issue?

(195 posts)Your pressure tank is waterlogged, it should have a valve that resembles an air valve on a tire.. You need to know what the cut-in pressure is set at and fill the pressure tank air to 5lbs pressure below the cut-in pressure that should stop the constant cycling... And yes shut it down before it burns the pump up...
or a leak

(8,445 posts)I agree with PoliticAverse. Shut it down.
I know nothing about well pumps, but I just read a few reasons it could be happening and, no matter what the reason, you should shut it down so you don't burn up the pump.

(10,252 posts)Was it new or a reconditioned one? I would call the installers back and raise a big stink. If they installed a reconditioned one, there should be at least a 1 year warranty on it. If they claimed that it was new, I would insist on seeing proof of its newness and find out how long the warranty is good for. You paid good money to have it installed properly. Whether it's a bad pump or not installed properly, they have to come back and do the job properly.
If they balk at coming back and fixing the problem at no charge, mention that you'll see them in small claims court. Save all your receipts and cancelled checks of payment. Then call the county courthouse to find out what your rights are in small claims court. You claim has to be under a certain amount, usually $1000, but that may be different in your state. Typically there is a small $25 fee to file a claim that includes the court serving a warrant for them to appear. If they don't appear, you win the case. You don't need a lawyer in small claims court.

I try my best to be independent and self sufficient but it is getting harder and harder.
That you took the time to type these words, to empower and advocate for me, sight unseen, as we say, means so much. Thank you.

(10,252 posts)may have palmed off a crappy reconditioned pump on you. Maybe not. Hopefully they are honest. Are they listed on Angie's list on the web? If so, you can inform them that you'll be writing a review of their service on Angie's list. I would also inquire at Home Depot or Loew's and ask the price of a new pump, the warranty, and what they would charge to install it. That will give you an idea of what the job should have reasonably cost.

(22,632 posts)That one faired way better than the one I inadvertently took for the ride of its life on the passenger side window down I-40 a while back. Their abilities overtake those of Spider-Man apparently. I watched lizard skin ripple in the wind praying for the next exit where I removed him, apologizing for the relocation. Later in the day there was a lizard meeting where his whereabouts were the subject of many conjectures. I now make it a habit to do a preflight check like a pilot to avoid repeating my mistake.
Thanks for the reply MADem. ♡
