Ford was a moderate Republican. He was pro choice, pro-ERA, and pro affirmative action. Today's GOP would loathe him. He also never vouched for Nixon's character like Pence did for Drumpf's.

I won't be surprised if Pence goes before Trump. Look for Graham or McCain to be the next president.

(4,835 posts)If Pence resigned (like Agnew), a new VP would be chosen (like Ford) and then if Trump resigned or was impeached, whoever was selected as VP would become president.
I don't think they'd pick Ryan to be VP if either of them left. That's why I say Graham or McCain, maybe governor Kasich.

(28,394 posts)After drumpf is relieved of his duties. (Or if Pence goes first, drumpf would choose a new VP.)
Paul Ryan is next in line after Pence. Then Orrin Hatch as president pro tempore of the Senate.

(4,835 posts)Speaker and President Pro Tempore aren't automatically promoted. If it were like that the president pro tempore of the senate would become speaker of the house.
Ryan only becomes president if both Trump and Pence are gone at the same time. Otherwise they select a replacement and that replacement is promoted.
That's how Ford became president, he wasn't speaker of the house. Nixon selected him after Agnew resigned. Rockefeller wasn't speaker either, Ford picked him.
