Right wingers, with the help of the alt-right, have used this three letters to represent a negative congnitation ..
Anything friends on the Alt-Left who could come up with our own put downs ?
Back in the day on DU , we used freepers (free republic) .. but i doubt many young people even know that reference...
4chan and its /pol/ directory have unleashed meme after meme based off of snowflakes , pepe the frong, and the term SJW...
shouldnt we be making up our own ?
the alti-right has become a trendy thing for youth and uneducated trolls to spout... how can we win this segment of voters back ? how do we win the online war again ?

(28,339 posts)being called a warrior for social justice.
I am fond of the label, and proud to fight for justice for all.
iamthebandfanman
(8,127 posts)but it is used as a derogatory term ... meaning overly sensitive to all the way to moronic....
there are alot of young keyboard warriors who praise or take nazis propaganda as a means to be edgy or cool (mixed with actual neo-nazis nagging it on)...
dare you visit 4chan.org/pol/ .... politics is a joke to them.. ive even read articles about the value of 'memes' and their effect on young people voting for someone like trump. its sad. its considered cool to post nazi and anti left propaganda...
i think it seems far fetched, and marginal.. but they organize ... they even got the 'he will not divide us' exhibit moved from its first location by showing up in mass chanting pro-trump and anti-semitic slogans....
i fear if we dont organize our youth in the same fashion, only from an opposing view the next four years will be filled with young people thinking they are part of the counter culture by shewing such hate for others.
Just an example :

(28,339 posts)being insulted by Nazis, if Nazis do not think poorly of you, you are doing something wrong.
And don't EVER let them have control of your language. If you are a social justice warrior; wear it with pride.

(4,138 posts)Originally it was an insult, like "slacktivist", that referred to people that claimed progressive causes (usually with a holier-than-thou attitude), but obviously spent all their free time on internet forums, leaving no time to do anything productive for progressive causes. So the "warrior" part was the sarcastic insulting part of the phrase.
Eventually, rightwingers co-opted the phrase to insult liberals in general.

(100,063 posts)They call us snowflakes? No one has had their little feelings hurt more than Trump fans since the election. They say we need safe spaces? No one needs safe spaces more than Trump supporters. They say we are "social justice warriors"? They advocate for their SJW causes as much, if not more than we do. Only their policies hurt people more than help it.

(2,120 posts)I have gone after trolls online for sheer amusement purposes. It's fun!
... I start right in by calling them triggered snowflakes in need of safe spaces, coloring books, blankies, Mommy, etc. I hammer them for being JUST SO MAD that nobody is accepting their Putin puppet of a fake, failed President and usually ridicule them for kissing Trump's ass in public (I ask them if he pays them to do so or if he managed to con THEM into paying HIM for the privilege of kissing his ass). This works wonders with guys since right-wing guys are always seriously homophobic, so insinuating they have a crush on Trump or would publicly fellate him, etc. crushes them.
And then the piece de resistance: I ALWAYS make sure to tell them to keep chugging that Kool-Aid right up front because EVERY ONE of those turds will sneer it's you drinking Kool-Aid as soon as you engage them. They use the same, tired, worn-out phrases over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over since they're flipping imbeciles who can't think up anything new.
And the best part when I land the first "Drink that Kool-Aid!" punch? The incredulity and surprise in their reaction.
Envision an infuriated little toddler with the quivering lip and the hitching breath. "B-b-b-but *I* was supposed to be the one insulting YOU for drinking the Kool-Aid! T-t-hhats NOT FAIR!! NO! MOMMMY!!! HE STOLE MY LINE!"
They act like sniveling little spoiled shits, I treat them like sniveling little spoiled shits. And I've got a good track record with these pukes. I've gotten them to block me, delete their own threads - and in one epic case, I got a bona fide apology from a troll.

(2,120 posts).... they get their own behavior reflected back at them. It's all they understand or are fit for, and it ties them in knots. If they're spending time whining online about how I'm treating them, they're not out running around vandalizing Jewish cemeteries.
Too bad if you don't care for it, but I find it delightfully fun to poke their little hornet's nest.

(2,120 posts)Thanks for your commentary but I'm perfectly happy holding a mirror up to the Trumpstains. You're the only one that has a problem with it (well, the Trumpstains aren't too happy either), so go on your holier-than-thou way and bless you.

(2,120 posts)... to prove how superior you are?
Run along now. Thanks for the lesson that someone can be on my side of the aisle and still be an unsufferably arrogant, holier-than-thou bore.
Buh-bye.

(16,113 posts)See, there's more than one way to troll someone. Don't be afraid to expand your horizons.
... gets called out, claims to be trolling, retreats with sage advice to feign high-level manipulation. Sorry, I've seen that one before. But feel free to share any other pointers on expanding the game!
hughee99
(16,113 posts)I'm not trolling. I look down on you for going to the zoo, finding the dumbest animal you can, taunting them through the cage, and then bragging about how mad they get when you act like they do.
Now, what you need to do is declare victory, call me a name, post a , and claim you knew what was going on all along. Have a nice day.
mreilly
(2,120 posts)... I'm just digging the self-righteousness of someone who thinks they can "tut tut" away (complete with finger wagging) at someone else and try to demonstrate... well, SOME kind of alleged moral superiority because they've appointed themselves the arbiter of what's appropriate behavior.
You have spoken. Got it! The word from on high! Sorry that I didn't choose to subscribe to it, contrary to your apparent insistence to hold the holy high ground and lecture potential acolytes.
Meanwhile, I'll keep on keeping on doing what I do (and having a hell of a fun time too), and you may do the same, sir/ma'am. I'd say we've exhausted the scope of our differences.
Hopefully next time someone might actually satisfy your need to lord your views and have those be taken seriously.
Have a nice day as well!

(13,783 posts).... the ones that Joe Biden recognized as his neighbors. But they are not, for sure, the ones using derogatory nicknames about social justice. I think we should stop worrying about those folks but be careful not to lump all Trump voters into that same basket. Hillary figured it was less than half.

(2,120 posts)... they're beyond redemption. I'm not listening to their little sob stories about how it's not all about them 24x7x365 because they have to - GASP! - Actually SHARE EQUAL RIGHTS with people THEY DON'T LIKE!
No. Fuck 'em. We have to win the segment of voters who didn't bother to vote. A significantly larger percentage there than among this loser crowd of deplorables.

(208 posts)they don't care what anyone calls them. Whatever insulting name, acronym, meme you throw at them,
they'll laugh it off, wear it like a badge of honor and co-opt it for themselves.
Anyone remember "The Fighting Whities"?
The intramural college team briefly attracted a storm of national attention because of its satirical protest about stereotypes of Native Americans being used as sports mascots, particularly the "Fightin' Reds" of Eaton High School in Eaton, Colorado, not far from the university in Greeley. The Reds' mascot has been described as "a caricature Indian with a misshapen nose, [wearing] a loincloth and eagle feather".[2]
The intramural team, which included players of Native American, white, and Latino ancestry,[3][4] adopted the name "Fighting Whites", with an accompanying logo of a stereotypical "white man" in a suit,[5] styled after advertising art of the 1950s, as their team mascot. The character has been described as a man from the Ozzie Nelson era[6] or a "Father Knows Best white American male".[7]
At first, the team's T-shirts used "Fightin' Whites" as the name of the team, but various media reports referred to the team as the "Whities" instead of "Whites".[8] The plan to insult whites in the same way the minority students perceived Native Americans being insulted[citation needed] backfired on the group when the team's popularity skyrocketed. In response to customer demand, the team eventually began selling shirts under both names. The team added the phrase "Fighting the use of Native American stereotypes" to its merchandise to discourage the shirts from being worn by white supremacists, and arranged for CafePress.com to handle manufacturing and sales of the clothing.[9]

"Deplorables"? They wear that term like it's a badge of honor.
Calling gun nuts "gun nuts"... they refer to each other by that name.
Pepe? What started out as a harmless, family friendly meme, became an alt-right symbol because the left helped it become one.
'Trash Dove' was heading in that direction, but only gained minimal traction.
Meme wars? /pol/, /b/, Reddit live for it; they'd more than welcome any escalation.
Bottom line... you can't insult or embarrass people who can't feel shame, or care what you call them.

(985 posts)If being a social justice warrior means I don't want coal companies dumping their waste in streams, that I don't want funding for satellites measuring climate change eliminated and their findings no longer made public, that I don't want tax dollars funneled to religious schools, that I'd rather have money spent on replacing lead pipes than on a useless wall, count me in. I'm a warrior for reason and justice.

(22,976 posts)Pretty much heard it all, starting with "Democrat Party" (a Joseph McCarthy-thing), to "bleeding-heart liberal," which is pretty tame compared with the deplorable shite the RW throws today.
They have more insults at hand because 1) hate radio is exclusively RW, and to gin up the fear and rage, the usual on-air "personalities" have coined many of the unflattering sobriquets, and have definitely employed them over the decades; 2) Alt-right, neo-nazi websites and crap-fest-sites like Breitbart ("articles" and comments) have further lowered and devalued discourse.
Since they're unstoppable in a cockroach-esque manner, and as resistant to change as any hard-core cult members, I just say...fuck 'em. When they go low, we go subterranean. No prisoners.

I tell them that I find it surprising that they themselves don't co-opt the "snowflake" label, given their love of all things white. I also call them goose-steppers, lemmings, useful idiots, RWNJs, etc. Things like that. Thing is, given their love for Dimwit Donald, they're easier to make fun of than ever.
I spent a few hours bashing them mercilessly on Milo Yiannopoulos's web page, at the height of his scandal. Not the most mature thing I could have done, but I can't help it sometimes. I despise these people that much.
They try to play the insults off at first, but when the triggered retorts inevitably start coming my way, that's when I know I've gotten to them.

(6,034 posts)... are Jill Stein voters. They are part of the reason we have Trump
I know many people like this. They came up in my Facebook feed. They are white, straight and very privileged. These are the people who said Hillary and Trump are the same. And "oh my conscious won't allow me to vote for Hillary"
The used the phrases warmonger and corporatist to describe her. I heard that rhetoric here as well.
Their meetings are like this
They believed that Trump's victory will bring about a "progressive revolution." They willing we see everything burn down for their "revolution" and don't care who will suffer in the meantime.
That is why I am proud I am to call myself a Progressive Democrat and not a SJW. Because I am terrified for women, people of color, the LGBT community, Muslims, and others who will suffer because The Orange man is President.

(90,645 posts)Just be very very clear about that. "Alt-right" is what neo-Nazi white nationalists call themselves -- it's a cosmetic term for something extraordinarily nasty.
Second thing to be clear about, the extremes of left and right join themselves like (as MinMan so aptly pointed out a few days ago) like the Worm Ourobouros eating its own tail. It isn't pretty and it isn't productive of anything resembling American democratic values.
Make up all the memes you want -- in fact if you want memes just look around you any day at DU. There are plenty, with and without illustrations. Just do not invite a poisonous snake into your home and think it will be a cute pet.
