Then they'll get around to growing spine-like appendages.

to sign off on their crazy agenda and satisfy the base. But then the longer he stays, the harder it will be to get rid of him due to that same base.

They don't need their base. They'll simply continue to brainwash them with feel-good crap on FOX, deflect all blame to Obama and Hillary and liberals, and continue to move forward as if Trump never happened.

because many who are in there now were put in by the teabaggers and those teabaggers will primary them with someone even more insane than the current crop of crazies. In a way, their gerrymandering is coming back to haunt them.

All they need to hear, 24/7, from the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity and the gang at FOX, is that Trump's downfall was proximately and singularly predicated on "Democrat" meddling, Obama's shadow government, and millions of whining liberals who couldn't handle losing the election.

The sheep believe everything they're told. Everything.

their leadership is somewhat sensitive to getting an agenda done without the "distractions" and they are running around trying to put out fires left and right.

I expect Cheeto Boner is laughing his ass off now...

That would devastate the republic.

As much of a distraction as Trump has been, I think the Republican machinery continues to advance with demonic vigor.

The base is placated by images of Trump taking on the libs. If he goes down, they'll rebel, but not against the Republican party.

Some GOP Congressmen seem pissed that Trump is acting like an imbecile, but overall, they're laser-focused to undermine our society and no one's gonna stop them.

Unless, of course, we do.

and those "bills" being cited are only in the House. Congress has 2 chambers.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=8745118

Dozens of bills are submitted for consideration all the time in BOTH chambers. There have been multiple threads on DU about the bills that Bernie Sanders has proposed in the Senate.

But people have to learn to understand how Congress works and what must happen ("How a Bill becomes a Law" - School House Rock), including having BOTH chambers agree to the SAME version of a bill (and vote for it) before it ever gets to the President for signature. The Senate composition is much closer in terms of parties and many times, crazy-ass bills coming out of the House will die in the Senate.

The federal government is currently operating under a Continuing Resolution that will expire April 28th. The debt ceiling is up some time this month. This is what should be looked at while we walk and chew gum at the same time.

And I realize that the mere submission of a bill means very, very little in and of itself.

I'm simply saying that Republicans will continue to work quietly behind the scenes to implement their grand deconstruction of our institutions, whether Trump is tweeting on the pot every day or is sitting in a federal prison cell. The Trump base will become vociferous and may even threaten civil war if the latter is true, but not against their own.

I absolutely, totally agree with you in all other regards.

IMHO, it's not something that is somehow "sneaky" because we all know that since 2014, they took over full control of Congress. And we also knew that they would then begin to push through their insane agenda (like the 60+ times they tried to repeal the ACA).

Thing is, in order to get them out (meaning waking up the NON-VOTERS for 2018), they have to be tied directly to the fiasco that is going on now thanks to the current head of the government. Someone posted a list of about 57 GOP seats that are up next year that were relatively close races and/or were in counties that voted for Clinton. We only need 25 to re-take the House. What that means is if things get really bad with the current Russia controversy, those 57 may eventually have some impact on slowing down the craziest of the proposals.

And rest assured, as much as we want him frog-marched, it ain't happening. Darth Cheney walks the face of this earth today (or rather rolls in a wheelchair) as living proof of the old adage - "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride".
