Trump team now rejecting Comeys denial. This may escalate quickly.
MORE
The New York Times reported on Sunday that Mr. Comey had asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject Mr. Trumps assertions. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is untrue and must be corrected, but the department has not released any such statement.
A White House spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, was asked early Monday on ABCs Good Morning America whether Mr. Trump accepted Mr. Comeys contention. I dont think he does, she said.
I think he firmly believes that this is a story line that has been reported pretty widely by quite a few outlets, Ms. Sanders said. She went on to cite several news reports about the F.B.I.s investigation into links between Mr. Trumps associates and Russia.

(8,361 posts)WASHINGTON President Trump does not accept the contention of the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, that Mr. Trump falsely claimed that President Barack Obama had him wiretapped, a White House spokeswoman said on Monday.

(17,857 posts)Something we can all agree upon.
If Comey still had an ounce of integrity left, he would submit his resignation immediately and take his historical place among the immortals like Franz von Papen.

(23,351 posts)had something on him he didn't want leaked. I think they have a dossier on every single person of influence in the government. When you reach those heights, there is always "something" in your past you'd like to keep under wraps. If it's minor and you're basically a good person, you give them the middle finger. But if you've been embroiled in some nefarious back room dealings, and/or other unseemly activities, you may just knuckle under to avoid disclosure.

(18,745 posts)So Trump told a whopper, no instead of just ignoring the issue or walking it back, it's the job of those around Trump to invent reality to fit into Trump's lie. It's what you get with dictators, he cannot admit he was full of shit.
And this is where shit gets dangerous, because they're bound to fabricate evidence to prove Trump's not a liar.

You believe that the story has has been reported?

(82,849 posts)If something is "out there," no matter how specious it is or how dubious the provenance of the sources, Cokie Roberts has decreed that whatever the news tidbit is, it must be discussed with all seriousness and gravity as if it were Moses holding the tablets at the foot of Mt. Sinai.
I think this is just another stop on the continuum of Very Serious Things. Now if the President "believes" that something is "reported pretty widely" and it involves "quite a few outlets," then it becomes an actual thing. I guess the next point will be when the President believes something has been reported somewhere it becomes a part of reality. We'll be needing investigations of Hillary Clinton and the space alien baby pretty soon.
Caligula much?

(33,915 posts)He's apparently now saying because suggestions of wiretapping are out there, it actually happened.

(48,788 posts)What this probably at root means is that the Trump gang (tRump, Priebus, McConnel, Cohen, Page, et al) know that some of the leaked info about criminal activity (collusion with Russians, quid pro quo, Rosneft shares deal, loans, etc.) is real.
Hence they are sure their phones have been tapped, but it could just as easily be the other side of the connection that was tapped.

(23,003 posts)You've been the GOP's water boy in helping to sway the election DJT's way, and you seemed perfectly OK with that. Not so great when the pussy the orange assface is grabbing is yours, is it? You know damn well you would never approve of the illegal action of wiretapping 45 unless there was proof he was engaging with foreign agents or had really good reason to believe he himself was acting as a foreign agent. How do you like it when the lies are about you, not so cute now is it? Maybe it's time for you to tell the truth about what you know instead of keeping it hidden to protect him? Hmmm???

(2,190 posts)She's been told again and again that only Breitbart and that radio guy reported Trump's phones were tapped, but she keeps on smugly insisting that the BBC and the NYT said it too. I just want some news person to cut her off and say "STOP LYING ABOUT THIS."
Sorry for the yelling. I am so incensed over her.

(1,089 posts)is willing to turn on Comey publicly after (a) what Comey did for him and (b) given what the FBI could likely do to this clown, it makes me wonder if Drumpf is also willing to turn on Russia publicly. Is he so delusional, so dug in on the belief that he's smarter than everyone else, that he would think he could 'win' with Pooty by throwing a tantrum in his direction?
If I had to bet, I would go with that he does think that.
Sooner or later, this asshole is going to wind up on his own tiny island surrounded by circling sharks with a rising tide.
