Kick me out if this offends you or breaks the rules. I'm not proud of America. I'm embarrassed.

I used to be proud of my country right up until the day President Obama left office.

I'm ashamed now. I don't know how to defend her.

I just listen to my friends from other countries criticize us and I don't know what to say.

Therefore, we are all to blame.

The veil of their particular countries should help US citizens right the many wrongs by sharing with us how they had it done?

I assume we are held to a higher standard as a country leader in the world ,

the truth is, our country, as is theirs, is forever always in danger of a particular type of human infesting it's strain of horrors on the governed populations,

Race and or place of birth matters very little in helping to weed these particular Undesirable individuals out, since we are all the same species.....they blend in far too easily....

I'm from one of the other countries, and I've criticized a lot of things about the US lately. I've criticized some things in the past, too (e.g. death penalty, elected judges, insansely long sentences, extreme religiosity, missing social safety net, police violence, etc.).

But that's NOT about you, or "us" from your POV. I know the internet, so I know a lot of US citizens, and I know there are a lot of great US citizens. And there are lots of great things about the country, too. You can be proud of those things and you should be proud! I still remember the pre-Trump era and I am confident that greatness will return.

Remember when someone criticizes the US today, it's probably because of Trump and the Republicans (Reputin-cans?). And the lovely people who voted Trump into office and are still proud of it. I don't understand how a human being can be that dumb. Maybe US schools are already very bad, and I fear for the worst now that Betsy takes care of them. Hopefully the failing Trump administration will teach some voters an important lesson.

I honestly feel our country is better than this, and I feel this is not the America I was raised to believe in.

Having said that, I am extremely proud of the resistance I see growing every day, and I am also very proud of how people are coming together to defend what we feel is important. I am staggered at the way people are banding together, and I'm encouraged. In the words of Will McAvoy, "No, America is not the greatest country in the world. But is CAN be."

Stand strong and do your part to defend all that we hold dear. Raise your fist, scream, march, write letters and make the phone calls. Run for office yourself if you feel you can, volunteer for programs, VOTE--in EVERY election. The one thing that will make America great again is for us all to shoulder some of the hard work and responsibilities. Don't drop your eyes, don't look away in shame.

Regards!

Tue Mar 7, 2017, 10:34 PM
Mar 2017

to be mentioned in every family email. He wears a red wrist band, actually a few of different colors. I asked him what it meant (I thought it was a sports thing), it was a Jesus thing.

He and his wife have open carry permits. They live in Texas; I don't. He carries a pistol in his briefcase, even though he has a smart, very curious 9 year old daughter. He has a lot of guns. I worry about my niece. She likes to pull me away and tell me her secrets. She mentioned someone having a gun at a party. Of course, I told her to leave immediately and call an adult. She also tells me what they say about me...hurtsher feelings. They basically think anyone but RWs are a threat to their daughter, and voting for Hillary or Obama is left wing crazy, un Christian.
Guess Im guilty, because that stuff makes me ashamed to
be.
I love my niece dearly, but bro has blocked my having a relationship with her.She would get their phone and call occasionally...and say, they are in the bedroom or something...but I got the message. I'm trying to get over it.

They didn't think my daughter's beautiful wedding was Christian. Lovely, large outdoor wedding. Lots of diversity. She's actually Methodist, but sees no need to wear neon signs. Married, kids, a doctor, but not Christian enough for them. It is the Dem thing. I don't like them, and they don't like me. The difference is RW are malicious, and we rarely are. DT has already exacerbated our family divides.

The hypocrisy drives me so crazy, all of the jesus and gun talk with a few laughs at someone's implied racist remark, just makes me sick. They are so dumb (even though both these guys and wives are corporate presidents), that they don't even know their remarks are racists, or maybe they do it to taunt me. Disrespectful, at the least. We even had a Palestinian Muslim at the dinner table. It is so awful to raise a little girl in that environment. When my child was growing up, we would leave and state the reason, for those sorts of remarks. Hopefully, someday the little girl will overcome it. For many of us, it never took anyway. I think I see it taking though, with all of the money and private schools.

Very odd that with very similar backgrounds, my brother, is totally opposite. He went one way, and I went the other. Some relatives, friends, and books influenced me, and others influenced him. Flumoxed
Sorry...got wound up.

Off into some RW other world of guns, jesus and money. Self righteous, aggressive, paranoid, and angry. My daughter tells me some are into the crazinest RW stuff on FB...alex jones, drudge .Actually, they all are, vocal or not. I never thought they were bigots, but now as they are more radicalized, I see that too. They used to be sort of normal Repubs, who even once voted for Obama. Now, with the rise of RW crazy nationalism, they are off the deep end. They are an example of what has happened to bring this country to the depths of ignorance. They don't send me their RW shit, as I made clear that it disgusts me. I'm disassociating. They aren't the people I once knew. Same with a few old friends. They devolved into another species. I have much more in common with my cat.

Their silence (while each day's passing means a bit less democracy) is traitorous. It's not only embarrassing, it's an existential threat. The fact that so many are so quiet in the face of this debacle (again, Republicans) is reprehensible and unforgivable.

It's not some "mistake" or screw-up. It's fucking fascism, and it's not going to get better or go away, until the perps are OUT. How that gets done while under one-party rule is anybody's guess.
