LONDON A former British legislator is at the heart of the Trump administrations explosive allegation that President Barack Obama was spying on him during the 2016 campaign.
But who exactly is Louise Mensch?
For starters, the politician-turned-journalist is the writer behind an article published on the eve of the election titled: EXCLUSIVE: FBI Granted FISA Warrant Covering Trump Camps Ties To Russia.
The article, published on the right-leaning, libertarian website Heat Street, did not create much of a stir at the time. But it has come under the spotlight after Trump, in a tweetstorm over the weekend, accused Obama of wiretapping his offices during the election campaign. Trump compared the alleged bugging to the Watergate scandal, but he has not offered any evidence to back up his claims.
In tweets on Monday, Mensch emphasized that her reporting does not back up Trumps wiretapping claim, even though the White House cited her article to justify the allegation. She stressed that her reporting refers to a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court warrant and does not mention anything about wiretapping.

Also, Louise continues to say that only Breitbart "news" reported the "wiretap". No other news organization did. Breitbard did! Wonder who in the White House used to work for Breitbart? Hummm.....

(8,203 posts)Stupid, ignorant of what exactly a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act FISA court warrant is...
this has surely set him off, being as paranoid as he is..if NO foreign communication - then he has nothing to worry about...doh! -

(406 posts)a server at Trump Tower that was communicating with a Russian bank. And the warrant would have been for the receiving server, not the sending server. Anyone else know more?
But I have zero doubt they have communications of Trumpies talking to Russians. Monitoring the Russian ends are a matter of national security.

(1,129 posts)That a FISA warrant is issued to conduct surveillance on foreign entities / persons..
But allows for the collection of both sides of the communications even if one side is a US entity/person...
Without the FISA they have to ignore/delete the US parties side of any monitored communications ...
The other twist is that say, France was monitoring Alpha Bank and captured some communications between Alpha & a US entity/person...
then as long as we have a FISA for Alpha Bank,
we can accept France's transcripts/raw intel of any of their collected Alpha communications, should they decide to offer them to us.....
The important thing to look for in official responses is the semantics & what they do not say...
Absolutely there was no FISA issued specifically to monitor the communications of Candidate Trump/ President Elect Trump or Trump Tower as part of a campaign Intelligence gathering mission...
That does not mean that NO Warrant has ever been issued for monitoring Trump / trump tower or Trumps businesses' communications......
There may have been a different type of domestic monitoring warrant issued at some point as part of a separate investigation (RICO ?)
