(8,656 posts)Putin did it, Erdogan did it.....
They have handed the playbook to Trump.....
Each one of those times, the sheeple sat back and said "they would never do that" until they woke up in a police state....
I watched it for years when I worked in Turkey......
it was all "this wont affect me", "they would never" "but what can we do"
It was distressing to watch.

(13,524 posts)just a little bit more -
Commenters asked, what do you mean, "targeting"? Like, hacking their emails, mucking with their lives?
And of course, I'm thinking, no, we're probably talking about cold blooded murder here, because if I ever was an "optimist", I sure as hell ain't now -

(13,524 posts)now I what you're talking about!! (not familiar with it myself) - - I HAVE read people's comments on both his and Mensch's threads to the effect that "hey, I know you're a conservative, biut I don't care, please keep up the good work!"
Louise has said time and again how much she loves this country and has no problem putting politics aside while pursuing treasonous bastards, whoever they may be, and I don't think John's any kind of right-wing nutcase at all - conservative, perhaps, but not loony, and is "on the case", workin overtime!

(2,857 posts)Maybe she called it a middle-out attack? I forget the word, but she said it was confirmed.
Might be called a "man in the middle" attack. I found it online but can't past it in here for some reason.

(13,524 posts)"putinbots" were on a rampage this weekend - which I assume means they got a shit ton of bogus Russian tweets on their accounts?
And I think it was Saturday night, Mensch said she was gonog out for the evening and said something about "middle out", which sounded like a twitter attack or SOMEthing! In fact I googled that expression, but found nothing..
I do certainly worry about all our citizen sleuths, though, and pray all remain safe as they work their butts off trying to help save our beloved republic!

(2,857 posts)It's like someone gets between you and everyone else and blocks your messages/data in a cyberattack. I found a great page explaining it, but can't copy/paste the address, lol.

(3,675 posts)for her emails but claims to be non partisan otherwise. Google him if you are wondering who he is. This is an older piece I found interesting:
Lately, his commentary has been directed toward the seemingly never-ending scandal surrounding Hillary Clintons use of a private e-mail server during her tenure as secretary of state. Clinton, Inc. thinks they can win a liars match and leakfest with the [intelligence community], he wrote on Twitter last week. While Clintons camp may try to dissuade the public from concluding that its actions were criminal, Schindler says those with intelligence experience arent fooled. Spooks know just what theyve been up to . . . for years.
Schindler has amassed a loyal following, particularly among conservatives, for his blunt missives on cyber-security, foreign policy, and intelligence. His experience as an NSA analyst has made him a unique player in debates over the NSA metadata program laid bare by Edward Snowden, the Chinese hacking of the Office of Personnel Managements database, and the Clinton scandal known in the Twittersphere as #EmailGate. His contribution comes in translating intelligence- and security-speak often an impenetrable argot for the uninitiated.

(7,232 posts)Like Mensch, he's worth taking into account because of his contacts (and in his case, to a certain extent, because of his background, though it's not dissimilar to people like Larry Johnson, who I'd never believe about anything), but he can be a bit, erm, excitable.
There are a few issues where his "conservatism" shines through - he still believes the Obama administration got the IRS to target RW groups, for instance.

(4,858 posts)...I'm doing my best to avoid apocalyptic thinking, but fuck it. This is the last straw for me--*if* this is so. A "president" of the United States, cooperating with a foreign despot determined to crush democracy around the world--to discredit *American* journalists? If this isn't "treason", then it doesn't exist. We know the Congress won't do anything. The media is engaged in their usual power-prestige-masturbation games. The Dems still think we're in "normal" political waters--maybe some rapids, but still the same stream. We aren't. This has gone far enough. I've reached the point that I feel, if democracy is going to be saved, we need an intervention. Yes, this will put us on the road to a banana republic. But better that, than the certainty of a fascist dictatorship if nothing is done. Maybe, if we're lucky, it will be 1688, rather than Cromwell.

As soon as T-rump's utility is exhausted, he will be "dealt with".
The objective, as always, is to enrich themselves at the expense of the increasingly unruly global hoi polloi.
Next up: a totally unnecessary war...
