If UBI in some form or another is adopted throughout most of the civilized world, and the U.S. economy and standard of living languishes and falters in comparison, that might compel our "leaders" to take some socialistic steps that they've wholly resisted so far.

Then again, this hasn't really happened so far with healthcare...unless the rich are existentially threatened, they will resist anything that would reduce their privilege in any way. Actually, probably still will resist changes that would erode the wealth gap, even in the face of impending doom.

I don't know that we'll make it to 2024 at this rate; either way, the era of U.S. ascendancy is over. I just hope the powers that be don't decide to take down the rest of the world with us.
