The US politician has claimed he could stick electrodes in your brain and have you recite verbatim a book you read 60 years ago. In no way is this true
Ben Carson, recently appointed US Housing and Urban Development secretary, is a qualified neurosurgeon. You therefore expect him to have some impressive expertise on the brain. But given his claim in a controversial recent speech that he could stick electrodes in your hippocampus and have you recite verbatim a book you read 60 years ago, this expectation seems wildly optimistic, bordering on farcical. There are so many reasons why this is the case.

(10,749 posts)Holy shit, our pediatric neurosurgeon was crazy.
And stupid.
My god, is he really that stupid?
And did we really let him operate on our child's brain?
It sure would be interesting to see the outcomes of his decades of practice. I can't believe someone this obviously stupid could not have been unmasked earlier.

(6,034 posts)BEN CARSON SHATTERING STEREOTYPE ABOUT BRAIN SURGEONS BEING SMART
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)Brain surgeons, long burdened with the onerous reputation of being among the smartest people in the world, are expressing relief that the Republican Presidential candidate Ben Carson is shattering that stereotype once and for all.
In interviews with brain surgeons across the country, the doctors revealed the enormous pressure they felt to live up to their professions inflated renown for intelligence before Carson entered the race.
When people found out I was a brain surgeon they would always assume I was some kind of a genius, said Harland Dorrinson, a neurosurgeon in Toledo, Ohio. Now they are beginning to understand that you can know a lot about brain surgery and virtually nothing about anything else.
Dorrinson said that acquaintances used to view him as a source of wisdom on a wide range of subjects, but added, Ever since Ben Carson said that prisons make people gay, thats really fallen off.
