what I expected. I have a lot of worries about folks who lose coverage due to jobs ending, not being able to make premiums, etc., etc., and I was especially worried by talk that seemed to suggest that the Republican plans would allow companies to refuse customers with pre-existing conditions if those customers had had a lapse in coverage.
The 30% surcharge they are suggesting (you would have to pay 30% for a year if you had a lapse of 63 days or more during the previous year) is punitive, will be cruel to poor people and folks on a fixed income, but isn't the return to the past that I had feared.
Ultimately, I think that the small semi-compassionate touches like this will be what prevent the rightwing Republicans from supporting the GOP's proposed "Obamacare Lite" bill, as the rightwingers call it.

(5,240 posts)you have a preexisting condition? If they have to cover people with preexisting conditions but charge so much for the policy that only the rich could afford it then that would make that requirement of no use.
