NBC NewsThey rarely agree on much, but health care experts on the left, right and center of the political spectrum have found consensus on the House GOP's Obamacare replacement: It won't work.
While their objections vary depending on their ideological goals, the newly introduced American Health Care Act (AHCA) is facing an unrelenting wave of criticism. Some experts warn that the bill is flawed in ways that could unravel the individual insurance market.
The bill, experts said, falls far short of the goals President Donald Trump laid out: Affordable coverage for everyone; lower deductibles and health care costs; better care; and zero cuts to Medicaid. Instead, the bill is almost certain to reduce overall coverage, result in deductibles increasing, and will phase out Obamacare's Medicaid expansion.

(11,728 posts)The ACA, which is a "formerly conservative" plan, didn't quite work without some progressive tweaks and some hard pills to swallow (namely the mandate and various taxes) which aimed to keep it afloat. The ACA was a mess, but it was something that could be refined and improved over time which was the plan. Get something out there that would increase coverage in the immediate, get people a little more healthy, see where the law needed tweaking, then improve it.
Unfortunately we had a bunch of people who just wanted to destroy the law because it was a Democratic policy and worse, a Black president had proposed it, and even worse, it might actually work if done correctly.
In response to the link.
The GOP has no interest in learning. Their goal for the last 30+ years has not been to draft public policy that benefits all of the various constituencies in some way. Their goal has been to to show that government (specifically government by Democratic policy) does not work and that somehow leaving the "free market" to address issues would make the US a great place to live. It is pure fantasy, but unfortunately, they have done a good job in proving their point that government does not work by actually trying to break it. Their followers have bought it for a few reasons. 1. Government is complex, moves slow, responds mainly to crisis, and has flaws as a human institution. 2. Conservative media has amplified concerns (some of which have some validity) about government, to cartoonish proportions. 3. as stated earlier, Republicans have actively sought to undermine government for the majority of citizens while simultaneously claiming the mantle of "fighting for American values".
Their plan will fail spectacularly, but look to them to claim that it is the fault of Obamacare or any other nonsensical notion, and watch their followers eat it up.
