Office supply chain Staples to close 70 stores

Office supply retailer Staples announced on Thursday plans to close 70 of its 1,558 North American locations during 2017, following a year of diminishing returns by the company.

Of Staples' 1,558 locations in North America, 1,255 are in the United States.

The company took a $548 million loss in 2016, and saw a 3 percent drop in sales.

The company has not announced which 70 locations would close due to Thursday's announcement.

100% of my book purchases in the last year have been Kindle books.

I never replaces my printer. Every time I actually need to print something, I go to the library and pay per page.

of buying cheap ink jet printers that just never worked. So I bought a Lazer printer. Love it though I don't print much.

Or any other large-scale closings, or massive job losses. Not a word.

http://www.azcentral.com/story/money/business/2016/05/10/staples-office-depot-merger-blocked/84210174/

A federal judge in May 2016 blocked Staples' $6.3 billion acquisition of Office Depot, siding with regulators who argued the merger of office-supply titans would reduce competition and raise prices.

The companies said they would not appeal the decision and would instead abandon the deal.

I still stop by Staple's from time to time, but there are parts of the store that are of limited usefulness.

I am in a very small town, and like the last very small town I lived in, we have a WalMart, and that's IT.

So if I need a roll of Scotch Tape or pens or legal pads, WalMart gets my money.

Anything more elaborate than that comes from Amazon.

I went into my local Staples to buy a "64G thumb drive" and the young man looked at me like I was speaking Martian.

He didn't know what a thumb drive is.

And once he did understand what I was looking for.... they aren't stocked in the store, have to order online.

Eventually I ended up in Wally World and sold my soul to the devil.

I am waiting to hear the same thing from office Depot and office max. They can't compete with walmart and Amazon.
