Union tips off Border Patrol in immigration crackdown - The Buffalo News

Published Thu, Mar 9, 2017

Federal agents are not the only ones trying to remove people from the Buffalo area who have entered the country illegally.

If Bill Bing, a carpenters union official, discovers workers at local construction projects suspected of being in the country illegally, the union tips off authorities.

That information has led to some raids and arrests, he said, although the detention last month of 32 individuals suspected of being in the country illegally and working at projects was not his tip.

"We were not directly responsible for the information on those two raids," said Bing, the local representative for the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters.

lawn mowing, house painting, dry wall, catering, roofing, pool cleaning, house cleaning, cashiers.

Taken jobs and driven down wages.

So while Democrats go for the emotional tirade against all this, at the heart is the empirical FACT illegal immigrants ARE taking jobs and acting as scabs.

I don't support what's going on now, but there's a reason some unions are cooperating.

Word of advice: Next time you see a Latino banging a nail, painting a house, or scanning groceries, don't assume he/she is an undocumented immigrant. You don't have magical powers, so don't pretend that you do.

Seriously, a lot of the older Recently immigrated hispanics would probably vote conservative due to the vast majority being evangelical or Catholics if it wasn't for the GOP hating brown people.

That said, The younger hispanics that are raised here are definitely more friendly to the Democratic Party by far. That's part of the reason why California is so Blue. So the dems should focus on getting younger hispanics to the polls.

Jobs gone and wages depressed.

If you don't understand that is a problem that needs addressing, you aren't being honest.

The fact the problem hasn't been addressed is a part of why Trump was able to turn some in the mushy middle.

And btw, you DID make a snide comment about rich union members.

for all our countries problems and make them scapegoats.

It's also about a business/labor system that has built illegal immigrants into it.

The way I see it, Republicans and business class are having it both ways, they benefit from driving wages down using illegal immigrants AND they can use those very same illegal immigrants to piss off uneducated, rural white people.

And stuck in the middle of that are actual people who have indeed lost jobs that were there.

All the jobs I listed above in my 1st post have been taken from people who grew up here. Jobs that require some amount of skill but not a college education and that paid pretty damned well. And where I live the cost of living is crazy-high.

But that's just me. Not one of your comments addressed the fact that the true cause of illegal immigrants taking jobs that are "entitled" to you is the fact that the companies keep hiring them. I assume you're gonna act like you did only after you read my comment.

I see this a lot. It's the same old shit. People did the same thing to the Chinese workers who built the railroads, then after it was finished, we get the Chinese exclusion act. People always complain about the immigrants themselves but they never mention the people hiring them. You just go after the workers themselves, because they are easy targets and they don't look like you.

Cause I grew up with people who had all the jobs I listed and made decent wages without needing a college education.

The landscapers, house builders, pool cleaners and caters etc where I live aren't jobs procured through huge mega-corporations.

Although that may be the case in Middle America and rural places where there's crops that need picking. That is, big corporations hiring people here without legal documents.

But that doesn't mean we should treat the immigrants that help build this country with disdain. There are a group of people willing to do it for a cheaper price. That's a by product of uncontrolled capitalism. Instead of letting the contracted brainwash you into hating the hard working immigrant trying to do what he can to help his family, why don't you direct your anger at the person hiring them instead? After all, you are entitled to that job.

Put the blame squarely where it belongs: on the contractors who hired them in the first place.

I like a lot of your posts Kitty, so I know your not being racist here, but calling an undocumented worker an "illegal alien" and accusing them of stealing jobs reeks of RW bullshit. Most of these workers are merely doing a job and being paid to make a better life for themselves and their families, they aren't doing this in some nefarious attempt to steal jobs from anyone. The bigger issue here is employers who continue to exploit undocumented workers for their own gain!
