Cory Booker pushes to block updated Trump travel ban

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Cory Booker and 15 of his colleagues have introduced legislation to block President Donald Trump's updated executive order on immigration.

The legislation co-sponsored by Booker (D-N.J.), a new member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, would prohibit federal funding to carry out Trump's order, which banned entry for 90 days from six Muslim countries, Sudan, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen.

"President Trump's executive order is un-American, unacceptable and makes our country less safe," Booker said. "This order violates some of our most deeply held values and Congress must act as a check on this re-branded, but nonetheless destructive and reckless Muslim ban."

The legislation would say that the executive order violates the Immigration and Nationality Act, a 1965 law prohibiting discrimination against immigrants on the basis of their national origin.

I wish he had been Hillary's VP. Tim Kaine is a nice enuf guy, and his heart is in the right place, but I had this sinking feeling when she announced him that he would add very little, and maybe that is why she wanted him. There were all of those cartoons of the camp putting him in a room to work jigsaw puzzles. Really, Hillary. There were so many better options. It was kind of like who the Dems put up to give the Dem response to the State of the Union address...the nice Repub looking farmer in Kentucky. We do not appear to be getting better at this.
I guess they were going for a handful of votes from thereabouts.

Cory is a rising star. Please Dems, let him rise. He is a natural leader and a man of great courage. He states the truth, rather than, hem and haw, being too something, milqetoast, to say it. Sometimes, many of the Dems are so afraid of overstating, that they just choke, or stutter. Like, there can be a Cat 4 Hurricane, and they state maybe, there is a chance, now, I didn't say it, that there may be a storm, but let me be clear, it is quite possible that there will not be. We must wait for all of the facts, but some water is.possible, blah, blah. Crash! Meanwhile, the Repubs steamroller us with outright, boldly spoken, lies.

Cory speaks clearly. That does take courage these days.
