Ivanka Trump's D.C. landlord is tycoon behind planned Ely copper mine

http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2017/03/09/ivanka-trumps-dc-landlord-is-tycoon-behind-mine.html

Andrónico Luksic is a Chilean billionaire whose family controls Twin Metals, the company embroiled in a legal fight with the U.S. government over a proposed copper mine near the Minnesota Boundary Waters. He also owns the home where two of the most influential people in Washington, D.C., are living.

That's according to The Wall Street Journal, which reports on the Minnesota connection to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner's D.C. home, which Luksic bought just after the November election. Trump and Kushner were also looking at the house but wanted to rent it; their broker made the connection to Luksic, a spokeswoman said.

{snip}

Twin Metals, a unit of Chilean mining company Antofagasta, is embroiled in several disputes over its proposed copper mine. It's sued the federal government over expired mineral rights, and late last year regulators refused to reissue them, citing the threat of pollution to Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

Mining industry officials said that they hoped the incoming Trump Administration would reverse the decision, but a spokesman for Luksic said there was no connection between the mine and the rental deal and that Trump and Kushner are paying market rent for the house.

This enormous sulphide mine will be located on the boundaries of the Minnesota Boundary Waters, and has a high potential to pollute that pristine area of wilderness. It's a hotly disputed issue, which is current stalled, thanks to the Obama Administration.

Watch for those objections to disappear shortly and the permits for the mining to be expedited through the process. I almost guarantee it, due to the information in this news story.

Devos, Carson, Tillerson and Pruitt have a side bet, which one can do more harm to our environment and institutions the quickest while simultaneously enriching only people who are already very very rich.

The stakes are lunch at the local favorite restaurant, where they can all gather and laugh about the death and misery their direct actions caused.

Half the country will be laughing right along with them, until said actions cut off their air supply or water or food or healthcare.

disagree with politically.

Trump lives for only that, that and greed. What that says about us, well we dont deserve to survive this, do we.

Our only real responsibility in this, in my view, is not screaming bloody murder all these years about the horrible distortion of the truth by people like Limbaugh, and the 24 "make news not report news" infotainment channels that distort reality. Many of us spoke out, but clearly we could have done better. And too many people bought into the lies which led us to Trump.

With Republicans in charge of all three branches of government, almost anything is possible. We should all be very frightened. Hopefully, that fear will actually lead us to work together to regain control as soon as possible. If it does not, we are well and truly screwed.
