It's what they always do. The fat government contracts are worth lots of $.

This is not a recent development, just a new set of thieves.

It was purposely vague. To liberals it typically means ridding the environment of corruption but to Trump followers it may well have meant ridding government of liberals, blacks, women, or whatever else has been put into their heads as a boogeyman.

Of course Trump and the GOP have always wanted to destroy the liberal foundations of government and loot the commons. They were fine with allowing scared and ignorant Republicans to project whatever they wanted into that phrase as long as they remained in power and had access to the public's money.
