When arguing with conservatives it's pretty common to be unfairly accused of being a communist.
So I think it's only fair to turn the tables a little bit.
Lately, when talking with conservatives, I mention the Trump Administration's ties to "Communist" Russia.

(13,903 posts)IMHO, the right wing in this country were never anti-communist as much as they were jealous of the control the totalitarian government had over its people........you always hate and bad mouth the competition when you think they have an advantage you don't.

(115,681 posts)The Communist Party lost much of its power in the '90s. Now it's basically a controlled, authoritarian capitalist (or oligarchic) state. But if it makes the conservatives nuts by suggesting they are happy with Trump's close relationship with a communist regime, go for it.

(37,158 posts)...I do sometimes speak of the ongoing Sovietization of the Republican Party.
There's a raft of things, like torture and airbrushing inconvenient history, that back when I was growing up were on the list of things the Soviets did and we didn't, and that's why we were better than them. Yeah, reality was never that clean, but Republicans have taken them out of the booth in the back in the corner in the dark and made them official policy.
They have a Correct Policy (in the old Soviet sense, not "political correctness" , and you are either on board with it or you are targeted for destruction. They may not actually send people to a gulag (yet. With Bannon writing policy, anything is possible), but their careers do end up in Siberia.

(32,342 posts)They are capitalism run amok, and if we don't take care, we are looking at our future in Russia. People here probably hate Communism, but no matter how you feel about it, there was at least an attempt to have public programs that helped people.
Russia is cozying up to Trump because they have financial interests that they want to advance by stripping the U.S. of our democratic norms. The GOP are on board because there is nothing in that goal that is in conflict with their own goals. They aren't going to care what name you call them because they know you are wrong.
