Here's how it works:Visit the DemStarter home page
Click on the potential candidate or candidates you'd like to see run, and fill in the amount you'd pledge to donate if they decide to run.
You are not making a payment now, just a pledge.
If the potential candidate announces they are running, we will let you know where you can go to fulfill your pledge, and make a donation.
So if you have a candidate you'd like to see run, show them your support, and make it easier for them to do it!

Right now Bernie Sanders has the lead in pledged dollars followed by Al Franken who has the largest number of people pledging money.

(5,730 posts)adds something to the ticket. Bernie is getting up there in years, but what energy and leadership. If he is able,
4 years is a long time, and he is working hard.
I have liked Hillary, since 2008, and Ill always respect her. The good things Bernie is doing are in every paper. He has recovered and he's on the move, even in the south. That deserves respect.
I would like to say more, but I have to be careful. Last time I said something good about Bernie, someone alerted it, as rehashing the primaries, even though I wasn't talking about the primaries. I got dinged, my appeal was deleted, as were further attemps to contact. Could be 3 tech errors? They need an alert that says, I just don't like this person, which is honest.

(107,741 posts)I wasn't taking a position on Bernie just noting he was in the lead.

(5,730 posts)I live about as far away from Al as one can get in the 48. I really tried to help though, and the election went on forever. The Republicans were pouring big money in. This was before Dems crossed state lines much with support. The Republicans were shocked to have lost that, especially to a comedian, who had made his money lampooning them! I was a bit surprised myself, with all the money pouring in. The Fact was that Al had a following and we all helped. He barely sqeeked by, and the Repubs tried to cheat...maybe they did. He says he has to work hard at not being funny now...to be taken seriously.

(50,528 posts)Could we possibly find someone who isn't that old? Al Franken will be 69, and that's pushing it.
I think our best bet - if we don't want someone who's old enough to be the millennials' grandfather - is Cory Booker. Smart, young, vibrant...we do have a bench with people like Bob Ferguson (Washington state AG) and Katherine Clark (representative from Massachusetts)...I don't know much about Seth Moulton (MA-6 representative) but it would be damn hard to claim he's soft on defense when he was a Marine Corps captain who served in Operation Iraqi Liberation. There are some good young Texas Democrats.

Based on what I've seen on his record, he's gonna be divisive. He shot himself in the foot a few months back with the drug import vote.

(5,730 posts)and others in close Senate races. Kander was very personable. He would send an occasional personal email and even sent some info and links on my questions. Others had canned responses or their staff did it.
I was very disappointed that he lost. Pro gun control, which he announced after he put the automatic rifle together blindfolded. The Repubs and NRA steamrolled him with millions in negative ads in the last two weeks. A Swiftboat, but he's out there raising hell.
We need to keep Claire McCaskill too in a red state. The Repubs targeted her last time. She would have lost, but her opponent made that statement about "a legitimate rape," and the Repubs reappropriated their resources.

(40,416 posts)With Drumpf in there now the political landscape is a big unknown, especially three years or so from now. We could be anywhere politically by late 2019.
It would be very unwise to commit at this time. So I won't.
Best regards.
It's a little bit early for this. Not saying I don't have some names I'm thinking about. Just not committing, not yet anyway.

(5,730 posts)a celebrity, she might. There are many people more qualified, as she will admit. However, at least she is smart enough to get good people around her, and Obama could be on the transition team.
In this reality show world of voters, if we have to put out our own celebrity, at least she will fill the government with qualified people. She might run with a good VP, and then she could resign.

(80,708 posts)We have some really good leaders out here, from Inslee to Harris to Gavin Newsom. Senators Merkley and Wyden. It's well past time for our voices to be represented in the party nationally.
Of course, our Democrats are more likely to enthusiastically embrace marijuana legalization, an issue which for some reason still seems to cause bedwetting panic in our gatekeepers of beltway conventional wisdom.

(65,160 posts)I am not rich - if I was, would have pledged $100. As it is, I pledged $50 for Bernie and Warren. Pledged $25 for Gillibrand and Franken.

(284 posts)I don't care that apparently everyone thinks she's now too "damaged goods" to ever have a political career again. Her as president is my dream, and if she still wants it, I support another run.

(27,995 posts)I will support her too.

(284 posts)I would never ask her to put herself through that again, but if she wants to run, I already know who has my primary vote.

(2,678 posts)Sure, I'd support her enthusiastically. I'm just not sure she'd want to go through all that shit again.

(34,162 posts)from 2016. She has the best people surrounding her. I have to admit that she can learn and improve.
If we can find someone who can credibly synthesize the Bernie and Hillary perspectives (for a lack of better labels), we will be unstoppable.

Who came up with this list? What, Booker and Gillibrand are the only people on there under, what, 65? Where the hell is Gavin Newsom?

(10,893 posts)specifically who, but my ideal candidate in 2020 would be someone who is relatively young and up-and-coming (like Obama was). I don't want any of the 2016 choices again, aside from Martin O'Malley since he barely got any press and is still fairly fresh.
