Turn Your Texts Into Faxes and Send Them to Your Senators

http://www.teenvogue.com/story/resistbot-faxes-texts-to-senators

When it comes to resisting the Trump administration’s policies and making your voice heard, we now know that the “old-fashioned phone call” (in the words of Congresswoman Katherine Clark) is one of the most valuable tools we have. But, we also know that supplementing emails, postcards, and faxes to elected officials is also effective — especially when said officials’ lines are busy and voicemail boxes are full. And now, one company is making it really easy to send those faxes: All you have to do is text.

Resistbot is a new service that turns your text messages into faxes, and sends them to your elected officials for you, Recode reports. Want to urge your House representative to oppose the Affordable Care Act replacement, or ask your senators to demand an independent commission to investigate Russia’s involvement in the election, or block the implementation of the revised Muslim ban? Just text “resist” to 50409.

From there, Resistbot will ask for your name and zip code to determine who your elected officials are, and then ask you to write what you want to say to those officials. It can be as short as a sentence, like, “I urge you to demand a congressional budget office review of any ACA repeal plan,” or you can elaborate on your reasoning and any personal connection to your message. (And we’d recommend a “please” and “thank you” while you’re at it!) Resistbot will repeat what you sent and ask you to confirm before it sends the faxes to your representatives and shares a picture of them with you. Really, it’s that easy. The website even states that they’ve confirmed the faxes are “received and read by actual Congressional staffers.”

Phone lines can be set to voice-mail. Protestors can be corralled into free-speech zones.

This is just one of many ways to simplify contacting our representatives.

Whatever works, I always say.

The more tools at our disposal for voicing our opposition to this twisted and corrupt administration, the better.

I want to correct a typo in my original text and it's just wanting to add to the message. Frustrating.

Which we actually need again, since those were highly effective means of burying a congressional office in flimsy.

Most faxes don't go direct to the print spool anymore; they receive the fax as a pdf, so I am not sure if anyone's actually doing anything with them.
