An article in this month's Vanity Fair COMEY'S LAW. Some tidbits for you: James Comey is almost 7 ft. tall. What he did RE: 2016 election will take years to comprehend. A current FBI agent says if a tv is on in an FBI Bldg it's tuned to FOX. SO THAT'S PRETTY NUTS. A faction in the NY FBI office couldn't stand HRC and was out to get her, joking about seeing her in handcuffs.. In 2014 Loretta Lynch became his boss, in name only. Comey discovered early on he could walk all over her and did. What he did to HRC was a massive act of insubordination. Loretta COULD have said don't send the letter 2 days before the election. Why didn't she? Because everyone was positive HRC would win and they would be accused of interfering in the election. I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS...WHY ARE DEMS SO DAMN EARNEST AND PROPER? Rs aren't. And we lose and lose and lose. Much anger in me. (p.s. I never trusted LL as she was instrumental in pushing Citizens' United to be passed.)

it, which is fine, and it is also reasonable to assume Comey would have ignored her anyway, he said as much
However, she should have fired him then, and there is no excuse for not doing that

(53,061 posts)The President can, but only for "adequate cause" which up until now has been misuse of office.
Bill Clinton shouldn't have approached Lynch.
Lynch should have walked away from Bill.
There was no cause to fire Lynch because she and Bill had a meeting at the time the FBI was investigating the idiotic emails.
After that meeting Lynch had formally recused herself from the issue and had no legal standing to comment on it, in any case only the President can fire the Director of the FBI.

(92,114 posts)election took place, because that action would have brought more conspiracy theories, with unknown ramifications.
After the election though, I really wish he would have.
Easy to say things in retrospect I guess

(14,249 posts)Comey is no prince, but he's probably a hell of a lot better than anyone Trump would pick.
Besides, if Trump is going to put his own lackey into the job, let him take the hit for creating the opening.

(92,114 posts)though I don't believe that isn't the reason President Obama didn't fire Comey. That just isn't President Obama's style

(13,776 posts)That was just idiotic and stupid of him. I wondered at various points in the campaign whether he subconsciously was trying to sabotage Hillary... I believe he loves and supports her, and I believe he wanted to live in the White House again and be back in the public eye, but I can't help thinking that a part of him wanted to remain the star of their partnership.

(17,111 posts)He should never have approached her anywhere.
He put her in a very awkward position because he is an ex-President and there is no good way to handle it. She should have refused to talk to him but that is hindsight.
He has tainted her career very unfairly.

(5,455 posts)Aside from the meeting with Bill Clinton, which certainly didn't help matters, any FBI Director has a high degree of autonomy.
While on paper Comey reported to Lynch, in practice she had little or no actual authority to make Comey do anything.
Only a President can remove a FBI Director from office and even a President has to justify that removal from office to Congress.
