A Sonnet - The Tragedy of the Trumpists

And thus, we learn that beneficient souls
Are not enough. The sting of consequence
Must do its work upon the Trumps and trolls
Before they come to righteous cognizance.
Some learn from books, and some from tutor's art.
Some heed the wisdom of the storied past.
But some must play the stubborn, churlish part,
And come to wisdom only at the last.
Let's hope stern Wisdom teaches gently here,
And nothing sacred breaks beyond repair.
So patience, friends. For others shed your tears,
And give no counsel to a fool's despair.
Time wounds all heels, all folly has its day.
All greed and ignorance will run its course.
Such spite has wages it will have to pay
And those who raise the wind will feel its force.
So let us save the wounded when we may,
And keep our hearts out of the riot's way.
