In trying to make sense of the constant revelations about Trumps connections to Russia, we are often hearing the truism that the cover-up is worse than the crime. But in this case, it seems that the public is just seeing the tip of the iceberg.
You are absolutely correct. I think that the activities that have occurred and the thing that were seeing indicate a scandal on an order of magnitude greater than anything thats occurred in the 20th century. Whats occurring now is as close to Benedict Arnold as I think were ever going to get in American history. It had better be because the only alternative to what were seeing with this information is, if its not espionage, then it will be the largest financial scandal in American history.
One would think that someone would have taken Trumps associates aside and told them, about the ambassador and others, These guys are Russian spies using diplomatic status as cover? Did they not understand that or did they just ignore it?
You would think that the former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Michael Flynn who had his own coterie of spies, by the way would know that. But what would override that? Only one of two things would override that. This incredible belief that you give me a boatload of money and I get a boatload of money. Then you get these incredible, unbelievable returns promised to you, and you bring in more people. Thats what were seeing here, in this whole crew . . . and I refer to them in my book as the Kremlin crew . . . in that they saw relationships with Russia and the extractive energy industries as an ATM that would make them madly wealthy beyond anything if they controlled the levers of government.
The only other way to explain it is that they ideologically bought into [the idea] that Vladimir Putin is the greatest man on Earth and that the Russian antidemocratic system and autocracy is their way of life. I cant believe that. I think they wanted to win at all costs, and at the end of win at all costs, whether that meant cooperating with Russia or working with them, there was the promise of outrageous quantities of money. . . .
Do you think it is fair to say that Trump and his cadre are traitors and that they should be held accountable based on those criteria?
If we use the rhetorical definition of treason, the common vernacular definition of treason, and it turns out that anyone at any time in this campaign was aware of Russias operations, decided to use Russias operations and coordinate with Russias operations, that right there would be treason. That would be betraying the trust of your nation.

They're ALL treasonous bastards. Siding with, and pledging allegiance to, a Russian PUPPET who was installed in OUR White House by a HOSTILE FOREIGN POWER (i.e.: RUSSIA).

And how did McConnell know that if he waited until after the election he would have somebody
else to vote for replacing Tony Scalia as justice?
This was treason and a coup. Time for some cart rides.

(32,080 posts)the more I think about it, the more I would rather see them watch as all their assets are confiscated and redistributed to the unwashed masses. And, as long as we're going old school, why not take some flat bed trucks, attach some old-fashioned stocks, LOCK THEM UP in them, and drive them around the country, letting everyone pelt them with whatever they see fit to throw at them? For the rest of their sorry-ass lives.

(19,564 posts)They are the wrecking crew, and they dont work for this nation. I really think their ideology is based on an ideology they got from Putins philosopher, Alexander Dugin, the man who believes that Western liberal democracy must be destroyed and a strongman authoritarianism [must] step into its place, and then you could reshape the world as you saw fit. Thats Hitler and Stalin talk.
I also believe "The stupid shall be punished" and the stupid in this case are the American people.

(1,803 posts)His actions at the Battle of Saratoga, despite being saddled with an incompetent commander, turned the tide of the revolutionary war. While his subsequent treason was unfortunate and unjustifiable, it perhaps was understandable given his treatment, or at least his perception of the way he was treated, by Congress and the military command.
Trump just doesn't come close and certainly doesn't merit comparison to Arnold.

(90,645 posts)We need several Republican Senators to put Country before Party, to remember their deep seated patriotism before it's to late.
This is why the names of John McCain, Susan Collins, and Lindsay Graham keep coming up. We need what used to be called Old School Republicans on our side.
The Democrats need to stand together -- and the Republicans need to be split. It appears the GOP is splitting.

(6,994 posts)becasue they are afraid to act...I believe I know which party has the Majority.
For Example..Wilbur Ross the Cypress Bank Exec got 20 Democratic votes for confirmation after Elizabeth Warren made it known in here Senate speech, about his positions on Russisa and the bank that laundered Russian money and a affiliate of the Duuetch Bank where Trump has his Major loans.
Im talking about the 12 Senators that voted against the Bill allowing Seniors the right to buy prescriptions from Canada.
So we still have the those Republican lites that side with the Republicans, even when Democats had the Seante majority, because they are drinking from the same corporate well.
So these Democrats keep quiet for fear of losing those Corporate Sponsors.

(11,155 posts)Benedict Arnold who until his West Point treason was a hero of the American Revolution! If Arnold hadn't been unlucky enough to survive his almost mortal wounds sustained at Saratoga he would have been rememberred as a hero not a zero. Trump has never been as hero but always a zero.
