Things kids say

Last night my 8 year old daughter and I were sitting watching tv (World Baseball Classic in case anyone's interested) and she just blurted out, "Daddy, I hate trump. Is he going to make me leave the U.S.?" I told her, "Not if I have anything to say about it."
Apparently, she's paying attention to me, the news, and I guess her and some of her friends have been discussing the subject at school, amongst themselves. My daughter is Asian. Her best friend is a mixed race girl. One of her other best friends is a white girl. And so on. She's just a kid who wants to do what other kids do. I do not intend to stand in her way. If the trumpites do, they better rethink their stance because this old man is tired of all the bs and is fighting back.

The Sunday after the election, at the Unitarian Universalist service I go to, our young minister was doing what she calls the "Time For All Ages" segment. All the kids go up to the front of the sanctuary and sit on the floor with her for the topic of the day. The congregation is decidely liberal, and deeply committed to a variety of social justice causes. No Trump love there.

She asked what the kids had been hearing since the election. There were assorted comments, and then one little voice popped up, regarding Trump, "Someone might murder him." The silence was stark.
