"Access"

Picture a doorway, it leads to a land of security, peace, comfort, having your needs met, where if something bad happens to you then it's not necessarily going to shatter your life or your family, having your wants met, being able to do things you want to do, think you can do, and more.

For the privileged, powerful, and already well-off; this doorway can be in a cozy room, small, with the doorway being a few steps from where they start their journeys.

But for the minority, marginalized, and not so well-off; it is a different journey. One that one can picture being long and full of challenges; cliffs and turns, storms that hold a person back or even push them further away from the doorway, darkness that prevents them from seeing where they are, and more. All to get to this same doorway, many won't make it, others will give up.

We keep hearing about "access" and it's time to see what that means for this imagery. It doesn't mean making the journey less perilous, it doesn't mean making the journey shorter or quicker, and it doesn't mean bringing the delights out from the other side.

It means putting a sign that says "DOOR" over the doorway.

We need to demand more than that.
