Slate - "The Presidents Top Adviser Is Literally a KKK-Level White Power Scumbag"

The President’s Top Adviser Is Literally a KKK-Level White Power Scumbag

By Ben Mathis-Lilley

There is no sense in complaining that this or that Trump administration story isn't bigger news. There is simply so much garbage pouring out of 1600 Pennsylvania on any given day that it's beyond the capacity of any human to properly comprehend and become outraged by all of it.

And yet, I would like to complain that it should be bigger news that the second-most-powerful person in the White House has in recent days been revealed to have repeatedly endorsed an extremely racist 1970s novel, The Camp of the Saints, that is "revered" in the foulest depths of the white-power movement. Newly infamous Iowa congressman/white nationalist Steve King just endorsed The Camp of the Saints in a radio interview; two days ago, white supremacist Jared Taylor—who organizes an annual conference attended by KKK figures and "white pride" advocates—celebrated its newfound prominence on Twitter.

Let's review the whole situation.

1. Steve Bannon, the former publisher of Breitbart.com, was the "chief executive" of Donald Trump's campaign and is now the White House's "chief strategist." He is a longtime advocate of hard-line immigration policies and is reportedly one of the administration figures most closely involved with Trump's executive orders banning travelers from majority-Muslim countries.

2. At Breitbart, Bannon gave heavy promotion to the career of Milo Yiannopoulos, an all-around gutter person who, for the purposes of this article, is notable for having posed for photos wearing an Iron Cross and holding books about Hitler; Yiannopoulos also engaged in the white-supremacist practice of using brackets to identify the names of Jews when writing about them online. One of the articles Yiannopoulos published under Bannon on Breitbart.com praised a number of advocates of racial segregation, including Richard Spencer, who was recently seen making a Nazi salute and using a Nazi slogan at a Washington celebration of Trump's inauguration. Breitbart readers are infamous for using Holocaust imagery to harass their online enemies.

3. Bannon's ex-wife says he complained that he didn't want their daughters attending school with Jewish classmates. He's said publicly that too many Silicon Valley CEOs have Asian ancestry. He has publicly asserted the inevitability of the U.S. becoming involved in a "bloody" global war against Muslim armies. As the Huffington Post reported earlier in March, he has also repeatedly endorsed The Camp of the Saints, an abhorrent novel about black Americans, "dirty Arabs," and rape-crazed, feces-eating "Hindus" (among others) overruning and destroying white civilization. Here are a few excerpts from the book:

A passage near one of the excerpts above refers to blacks as "rats." I found the text to The Camp of the Saints, by the way, on an overtly Nazi website that has a section called "The Jewish Problem."

The chief adviser to the president—and one of his biggest allies in Congress—has endorsed an iconic work of white-power propaganda that refers to black Americans as niggers and rats. What the hell is going on? When will it end?

This Stunningly Racist French Novel Is How Steve Bannon Explains The World
“The Camp of the Saints” tells a grotesque tale about a migrant invasion to destroy Western civilization.
By Paul Blumenthal , JM Rieger

<SNIP>
The plot of The Camp of the Saints follows a poor Indian demagogue, named “the turd-eater” because he literally eats shit, and the deformed, apparently psychic child who sits on his shoulders. Together, they lead an “armada” of 800,000 impoverished Indians sailing to France. Dithering European politicians, bureaucrats and religious leaders, including a liberal pope from Latin America, debate whether to let the ships land and accept the Indians or to do the right thing — in the book’s vision — by recognizing the threat the migrants pose and killing them all.

The non-white people of Earth, meanwhile, wait silently for the Indians to reach shore. The landing will be the signal for them to rise up everywhere and overthrow white Western society.

The French government eventually gives the order to repel the armada by force, but by then the military has lost the will to fight. Troops battle among themselves as the Indians stream on shore, trampling to death the left-wing radicals who came to welcome them. Poor black and brown people literally overrun Western civilization. Chinese people pour into Russia; the queen of England is forced to marry her son to a Pakistani woman; the mayor of New York must house an African-American family at Gracie Mansion. Raspail’s rogue heroes, the defenders of white Christian supremacy, attempt to defend their civilization with guns blazing but are killed in the process.

Calgues, the obvious Raspail stand-in, is one of those taking up arms against the migrants and their culturally “cuckolded” white supporters. Just before killing a radical hippie, Calgues compares his own actions to past heroic, sometimes mythical defenses of European Christendom. He harkens back to famous battles that fit the clash-of-civilizations narrative — the defense of Rhodes against the Ottoman Empire, the fall of Constantinople to the same — and glorifies colonial wars of conquest and the formation of the Ku Klux Klan.

Overwhelming your business rivals with offers, complaints, lies, bullying, etc., is a well known tactic. This behavior is well depicted in the Sopranos in any number of scenes.

Because, avers Raspail, using "nearby North Africans or Arabs" would have meant getting involved in a "false debate about racism and anti-racism in French daily life." That's laughable. The real reason he chose Indians is that they served a convenient purpose for him: The French are familiar enough with them to make his lurid depiction of them plausible, but not so familiar as to question it.

Thus he can strip Indians of their seven-millennia-old civilization — with its high culture of dance, music, architecture, silks, and spices — and present them as an invasive species worthy of mass slaughter, without straining reader credulity or offending their humanity.

Raspail also attributes to them values that are the exact opposite of Indian culture. India is an extremely prudish country. Chastity and virginity are prized virtues. Even married couples holding hands in public is widely considered a taboo. Hindu nationalists, in fact, constantly rail against the West's sexual debauchery. Depicting Indian people as horny beasts would be hilariously dumb if it weren't so offensive.

Raspail wrote his book more than 40 years ago to exploit Malthusian fears that the global population explosion would threaten the West and its inhabitants. It is now clear that the societies more in jeopardy are those confronting demographic decline, not demographic explosion. Just ask Japan and Italy. Historically, insulated societies have become less innovative and perished more quickly. Purity comes with a huge price tag. My friend and British author Matt Ridley likes to tell the story of Tasmania, whose technology regressed to Neanderthal times after rising sea levels isolated it from the world 10,000 years ago. In small isolated populations that Raspail covets, good ideas die faster than new ones are born. Cuba, North Korea, anyone?

Besides being poorly written, I get the sense that he may have created his work, if you can call it that, with pen in one hand, and penis in the other.

To the point about isolated societies' technology regressing, a great point to make, no doubt, but it does overlook that our very own bodies would degenerate without genetic diversity and influx of newly acquired mutations, amplified by 'foreign' DNA to complement the older and more selectively-tested genes in our chromosomes. It's really more about safety in numbers, and the more diverse, the better.

Even if being 100% pure was possible, I hardly think it would be a successful formula.

They've been conditioned -- continuously since early childhood -- to believe what they're told and not what they see.

They've been told it was the highest virtue to do so.

Indeed they've been taught through repetition and group pressure (and group reward -- mass approval for the right behavior can be pretty powerful) to feel great about themselves whenever they look a truth in the eye and thoroughly deny it.

They have refresher sessions every weekend.

I doesn't all happen out of nowhere.
