Breaking on CNN! COMEY going on record re: existence of Trump/Russia probe

Breaking right now on CNN. Comey is going on the record/public regarding the existence of Trump/Russia investigation. This is a big deal as the FBI has never PUBLICLY confirmed the existence of an investigation.

This is breaking right now so details are very thin. It may say very little as to what any investigation is about, etc. Of course the Trump nutter on CNN is ranting that this will show that Trump is totally innocent. Barf.

Update: Comey met with Sen. Feinstein and Sen. Grassley today. No public announcements yet re: existence of FBI investigation. My personal suspicion is that Roger Stone is in big trouble and may be the fall guy for all of this -- as for the others I don't know.

6. It's not happening tonight. Comey is going in front of senators on the intel committee who have

asked for confirmation re:existence of Trump/Russia probe. CNN was breaking the news that Comey is going to do this as the FBI has not publicly stated whether or not any Trump/Russia investigation is happening. Obviously if they say that no investigation is happening or that they have satisfied their questions or that the investigation is ongoing -- any of those will be big news.

30. The FBI isn't a monolithic organization.

I don't trust the NYC or DC criminal investigation field offices. But Counterintelligence is a different branch that may not have been penetrated.

The criminal investigation side was subverted in order to protect Russian mob investments in NYC, and has been ongoing for years AFAIK. Getting to the counterintelligence branch would have been a lot harder due to better vetting, and the payoff would have been quite low until recently. Given that it's a hard job on a short timeline, I have some faith that that branch is still fairly intact.

Comey, of course, is the boss of both branches. That leaves his sympathies open to question until he goes public with the counter-intel story. I still have a lot of faith that at least this side of Jim's brain hasn't been rotted away.

We'll see today, maybe.

Because he'll be breaking the Glomar silence one way or the other. If it's not a natsec investigation (i.e. Glomar doesn't apply) I'll be doing a lot of head-scratching. With the Russian involvement, national security issues are a foregone conclusion - especially given the Flynn flap.

He's had a long while now to craft this package. Who knows what he's been up to? Maybe in collusion with the GOP leadership and Trump loyalists. Making sure the paper shredders and hard drive wipers have gotten rid of all evidence before he goes public to declare "nothing to see here". Or more likely, to appease the MSM with a story, they will find some Trump sycophant to fall on his sword for his Dear Leader, with a story about how this mistguided person went a little too far. But now everything is hunky dory as the Trump admin has been now briefed on what to look for and Comey is now assured that everyone will be on their best behaviour from now on.
