If nobody in the press covered the Trump taxes story...

...then he would have furthered his argument that nobody cares about his taxes - not even the press.

He would have then said something like, "I rest my case. Hell will freeze over before I feel the need to disclose my taxes."

So long as people even discuss the pros and cons of Maddow's coverage - the issue of his taxes stays alive. I believe he had them sent to Johnston so Trump is responsible for the longevity of the issue. Like Charlie Pierce said, Trump is just not that smart. Imo, he left his own fly open and then he pointed it out.

If nobody covered it then he advances his case against making his returns public. Now he's stuck with days and days of people like Rachel and Johnston finding things in the 2005 return that make us even more curious.

I'm just watching my recording of Lawrence's show tonight. Johnston discussing the charitable contribution(s). The beat goes on heading towards April 15th.
