You need to remember that establishment republicans like Grassley want Trump gone so they get Pence

If Grassley look sad, that isn't necessarily something good. It means Comey either gave the usual 'Trump acted carelessly but there isn't enough evidence to prosecute him' like he did to Hillary, or 'both Trump and Pence are complicit in this'. The latter would be good, but both situations would warrant Grassley being unhappy.

... doesn't know the obvious: that HE is expendable.

His ousting would not only keep the WH in Republican hands, it would lead to the GOP getting the president they wanted all along: Pence.

Having Pence as POTUS would mean GOPers would be free of having to defend Trump's inane middle-of-the-night Tweets, the conflicts of interest that his businesses represent, his whacked-out accusations that Obama "tapped his wires" - the list goes on.

A "president Pence" would cure a LOT of the ills the GOP are now facing on a daily basis, and there isn't a loyal Republican PTB who wouldn't heave a giant sigh of relief if Trump was gone.

Trump is the guy who's stinking-up the Republican brand - and the midterm elections are looming.

and we already know he lied about flynn:

The trouble is trying to distance Pence from Trump, when they're both involved in the same tangled web.

... that Pence is dirty. But the GOP feel they can "manage" the fallout where he's concerned, while Trump is completely unmanageable.

They never know, literally from one hour to the next, what absolutely insane Tweet, statement or policy they are going to be forced to defend. Pence is a party loyalist who can be counted on to promote the GOP agenda, but will do so in ways that are predictable and palatable.

They will still be walking around with an orange turdette stuck in their collective ass crack.

For them it is better than having a huge steaming pile of orange shit, but the stench will remain.
