According to the D.C. Police Department, more than 10 Black and Latinx teens have been reported missing. Sadly, the only mention of their disappearance comes from a series of tweets including several messages from the police department's Twitter account and a small number of online news sites, including The Root and Teen Vogue.

(42,862 posts)... a typo for "Latina" and the cut-and-paste between news outlets didn't catch the error?
Or, does "Latinx" have a specific meaning or nuance that I'm unaware of?

(11,910 posts)It's horrible to say, and sounds flippant (but I don't mean it to) -- Is someone trying to staff his escort services or trafficking and filling specific "orders".
We had someone come and talk to a group re: human trafficking/sex slave problem, how it can be countered, how to support the victims. Apparently it's really a huge issue in the I-95 corridor.
sometimes I feel like I have been caught in some time warp. Waiting to wake up

(48,988 posts)How does this compare with usual rates? Seems extreme, but how extreme?
If it is extreme, does this indicate some kind of organized / serial hate crime?

(32,640 posts)These sorts of numbers of missing teens in a geographic area usually do.

(10,014 posts)What does Latinx mean?
Latinx is the gender-neutral alternative to Latino, Latina and even Latin@. Used by scholars, activists and an increasing number of journalists, Latinx is quickly gaining popularity among the general public. Its part of a linguistic revolution that aims to move beyond gender binaries and is inclusive of the intersecting identities of Latin American descendants. In addition to men and women from all racial backgrounds, Latinx also makes room for people who are trans, queer, agender, non-binary, gender non-conforming or gender fluid.

(43 posts)DC police making more use of social media makes it look like more frequency but it is actually about the normal number. Could be run-aways.

(11,092 posts)I can`t imagine having a family member or friend missing.

(86,524 posts)for the families. One of my siblings went missing for several years, she had a mental illness and was eventually found in Texas, had been in Wisconsin prior to that. Someone kidnapped her then dumped her in rural Texas, then she died.

(86,524 posts)It happens to so many families, unnoticed by others, including other families who have had this experience. My family was dysfunctional to the Nth degree, some of us survived longer than the others. At least the generations that follow are having a better go of it... so far.

Depressing that we still have not progress as a society, even after all these years.
I blame Reagan.
But, right now, still hoping these girls can be found alive....
