Speaker Paul Ryan just gave two back to back live interviews on MSNBC (Meet the Press Daily) and CNN (Wolf Blitzer). He struck me as agitated and defensive, occasionally verging on sarcastic. They weren't great interviews. I'm tempted to call them meltdowns. But that's probably overstated; I'm going to wait to hear what others think. What I will say is that, having heard Ryan make his case, I think he and his bill may be in a worse position than I realized.

(599 posts)1. Ryan is a sociopath, so he has to fake what he believes would be an appropriate emotion for a
given situation. Sometimes he guesses wrong.

He did the thug thing of gish gallop, speaking as fast as possible, allowing few interruptions while repeating talking points...did not sound good...

(3,738 posts)3. I watched as much of his interviews as I could stomach and I think
Ryan came across as an arrogant asshole. He cares more about his ideology than about the suffering of people who weren't born rich like he was. I never liked him but I thought he was a more skilled politician than he is showing himself to be. I guess that is good.

The lie they have told themselves over decades is that they are smart. Soon there won't be anywhere they can hide to maintain that lie.
