there were a couple posts a while back admonishing us for using the word "Deplorable"...

still. That we should be careful the words we use or something or other.

And since then what?

Trump crazies continue to attack folks going about their damn business living life. In one case, an Indian man was murdered.

They continue to cheer Trump's bullshit at his post victory "rallies", they love the fact people are being detained and want him to go through with his real goal of a muslim ban - they were doing this shit as recently as this week when Trump was in Michigan.

Am I still supposed to not call these people deplorable ?

You know, the hypocrisy stinks.

Again, I want people to remember that Obama had to end a friendship with Jeremiah Wright because of some crazy shit Wright SAID, apologize a zillion times, meanwhile Trump is all up in our faces, cosplaying Mussolini, while being advised by a man whose intellectual heroes were anti-semites and whose wet dream is global authoritarianism.

"Deplorable" was one of the truest statements in politics, best way to fight it is to call it exactly what it is.

Deserving strong condemnation; shockingly bad in quality.

Synonyms: Disgraceful, shameful, dishonorable, unworthy, inexcusable, unpardonable, unforgivable, reprehensible, despicable, abominable, contemptible, execrable, heinous, beyond the pale.

Deplorable? Damn fine word, all things considered!

or sugar coating what is reprehensible is a sure fire way to kill whatever good exists in this country.

4. hillary's mildly impolitic statement was somehow deemed equivalent to donnie's barrage of hate
Fri Mar 17, 2017, 11:10 AM

how many people and groups of people did he say horrible things about?

and donnie and the republicans leveled their hate against people who had little to no choice about what they were hated for -- for being minorities, women, poor, immigrants, etc.; whereas hillary's "deplorables" remark was leveled against people who made odious and offensive choices, to be bigots.

5. Yes! the attack was completely different. I don't think my rage about this will ever subside.

it's the most fucked up example of privilege.

Trump attacked minorities for their identity of immigrant, or mexican or muslim, while "deplorable" is a criticism of character.

19. funny thing is, they take pride in being "politically incorrect", which inherently means

that many others will find their opinions "deplorable".

so, why they think being called "deplorable" for those positions and statements that they know damn well offend others is beyond me.

then again, i guess that explains why they quickly chose to wear the "deplorable" label as a badge of honor.

That's a blatant strawman. Good job on beating it up.

What some of us are saying is that treating everybody who voted for Trump as though they are an open avowed racist isn't helpful or accurate. The distinction isn't particularly subtle. If you'd like an example of why name calling and demonizing isn't helpful, has a Republican ever changed your mind by calling you a tree hugging America hating libtard?

If instead you take a larger view, you'd see that this is a human trait to be afraid of the "other". It's not just racist Republicans that have this, or even just Americans. Political support for the welfare state in Sweden has dropped as immigration has increased. If instead of devolving into separate camps of us versus them (whether Democrats and Republicans, evangelicals versus non-evangeligals, Muslims versus non-Muslims, etc) doesn't help. It just makes people sink into their positions.

8. It was never a strawman.

And it never will be. It goes to the heart of Trump's appeal, which curiously, many even on the left want to avoid which is whiteness.

I can sympathise with economic conditions hurting the vulnerable, but there is much to be despised in a world view that scapegoats immigrants and sees diversity as a threat.

Trump has elevated a type of politics that will make us poorer, and more corrupt while feeding hate and meanness to his most rabid supporters. It is deplorable, it is ALL deplorable.

It's unbelievable the walking on eggshells around this...Ask yourself why you're so keen on excusing away people who enthusiastically support it?

You are spot on, JHan. If someone isn't a racist or bigot they wouldn't vote for one for President. I don't care what excuses they offer, they knew what they were getting and they voted for him anyway. They are sleeping in the same bed now.

And, that's a moral failure.

And yes, I am afraid of racists.

I try not to offend anyone, but there are Trump supporters that are truly worthy of being called deplorables.

Is setting fire to an AA church not a deplorable act? Is painting "Trump" on the charred wall of the burned out church not a deplorable act?

Otherwise I agree with you.

The DU poster's title was a woman who fought off a deplorable and the article was about a women who fought off a rapist. Deplorable was not mentioned in the article.

It's name calling and it is immature.

Just call them Republicans - that's the worst that they can be 'called'.
