Computer scam alert...

By now most of us know about the callers from India, with heavy accents who say their name is "Bob"..
They want you to let them have remote control of your computer so they can make you sign up for virus protection or some such.

My call today was a "bob" with a really thick accent, who told me that because of the now well known Yahoo hack,
but he pronounced it YAY-Hoo, which I could sort of agree with

" there are many places on the internet that are no longer safe to visit, then -garbled garbled ....permission
look inside your computer....something.. something...blather"

So they are using recent hack news as an entry point...

You might want to share this with any family members who are likely to fall for the call, and warn them of Yahoos from India.

I tell them I have a Mac and hang up.

I used to get get a little bit of glee in doing that but it happens so often it's just become an annoyance.

not only will the IRS not call you and demand payment over the phone, they sure as hell won't ask for it in the form of itunes gift cards.

There are still "calls" from the IRS or the utility company that are going to arrest you, or disconnect your electricity unless you pay immediately.

And now there are almost "human" robocalls: there are a few quiet seconds and then she "apologizes" that her headset fell. Of course I hung up immediately but then my spouse reported exactly the same introduction.

And the "commanding" call: this is not a solicitation!

And for seniors: this is a return call for your inquiry...

He DID open by saying he was returning my call about computer problems........

those human sounding robots are hard to spot right off, until you try to interrupt them, when a normal person would stop talking.
Also, they get confused by nursery rhymes.....

None of these companies give a rats ass about you . They will never call you ever not Microsoft not Yahoo none of them.

Your bank doesn't give a fuck either they will freeze your account before calling you and may not even call you then.

Any unsolicited call from anyone can be pretty safely hung up on.

question everything

not knowing any better, then, I asked of which company and, of course, the call continued.

The way I look at it, unless someone specifically asks for a member of the family, I hang up immediately. Of course, if someone does ask for one of us - so far never happened, fingers crossed - will hang up after a few more sentences.

that will ask if you can hear them, if you respond "yes", they then take that positive response to screw you 10x over. Never answer a call if you do not know the caller #, let it go to message, because they will almost never leave one. If they do, disregard, no one but a scam operates this way.
