Cross-posted from the thread about the ***** family visit to Aspen. I thought this worthy of a standalone thread.
President Donald Trump's family is reportedly headed to the ski resort town of Aspen this weekend, a trip that could cost taxpayers a pretty penny in security costs judging by the clan's recent globe-trotting.
The Trump family visit to Aspen has not been officially announced, but the Aspen Times, quoting anonymous local law enforcement sources, reported Thursday that Donald Jr., Eric and Ivanka Trump and their families were expected and that the Secret Service had met with the Aspen Police Department.
....
Federal documents examined by NBC News outline hotel bills for the U.S. Secret Service and State Department coinciding with other out-of-town visits by Trump's sons and daughters, including:
-- $53,155.25 during Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump's business trip to Vancouver in late February.
-- $16,738.36 during Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump's business trip to Dubai in mid-February.
-- $97,830 for Eric Trump's business trip to Uruguay in early January.
In addition, the records show the Secret Service spent $4,0162.02 on rental vehicles in the Dominican Republic on Jan. 29, just ahead of Eric Trump's business visit to Cap Cana.

(269 posts)Was it snowing on the grounds of the embassy too? We have that wall of snow that stops at the border

(57,393 posts)There wasn't that much of it to begin with.
I had not known this, but it turns out that Canada has a holiday at the end of the year called "Christmas." The embassy puts up a "Christmas tree," decorated with "ornaments," overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue. I took some pictures of it last year.

Very exotic customs you have up there, I must say.
It just goes to show you how exciting my life is that the big thrill of my day is "walking across Canada" on the way to work.

(269 posts)We are so much more than cheap beer and milk in a bag.
Look up "Out for a rip" and Letterkenny on Youtube and you'll see just how exotic we are.
Thanks for the welcome!

(57,393 posts)I guess it's an Ontario thing, or it was when I was there in 2014, that the only place you could buy beer was in the gummint-run stores. And they weren't giving it away.
We don't get much down here (northern Virginia) anymore. Just Molson; I don't even know about Labatt's. We used to be able to get Molson Golden Ale, but I haven't seen that in probably 40 years.
Got any room for the *****s at Mont Tremblant?
Someone has skateboarded down the flight of steps at the Canadian Embassy. I'll post those pix when I can.

(15,800 posts)I'd love to greet their arrival in Aspen with a huge sign, "Stay away, we can't afford you!"
Unhappily for me and happily for them, I can no longer visit the higher altitudes. But the sentiment of my would-if-I-could sign applies anywhere this blight lands, so there's that.
Yuck.
