Donald Trump's disregard for words and truth is finally catching up with him

Incredibly, Trump has never had to pay a political price for his malign speech, shameless evasions and legion lies. To the contrary. By treating words as potent and weightless – potent, as tools to skewer opponents; and weightless, without lasting consequence – he greased his way to a spectacular political rise.

Until now. In the past three days, in the worlds of law and diplomacy, the president has been confronted with the consequences of his inflammatory speech. On Wednesday, Judge Derrick Watson issued a temporary restraining order blocking the administration’s revamped travel ban.

In concluding that the revised travel ban was “issued with a purpose to disfavor a particular religion,” Judge Watson did a shocking thing – he took the president at his word. Having heard the president call for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” Judge Watson did not accept the revised order’s quiet assurance that it “was not motivated by animus toward any religion.” Apparently a federal court will not let Trump unsay his earlier characterizations of the travel ban with the alacrity that Breitbart lets him unsay his touting of the birther myth.

The British are now trying to teach Trump a similar hard lesson. But Trump is a stubborn or dull pupil. In refusing to utter a word of regret, much less apology, he is sticking to his tried and true script. Apologies are recognitions of mistake and Trump by his own lights commits none.

And yet whether he acknowledges it or not, his words are costing him – not with his core supporters or his minions in the media, but with the coordinate branches of government and abroad.

It may catch up with him but Republicans will pull his nuts out of the fire for him. Kablooie Mar 2017 #1

Just watch as the "dead on arrival" healthcare bill and horrific budget are approved by the Republican Congress.
There may be little tweaks but I don't believe for a minute that they won't pass these.

They are just too destructive for the Republicans to let them fade away.
It's always been the Republican wet dream to create policies that murder poor people and pour buckets of money into overly rich pockets.

Sure there will be squabbling over some details but they won't let this golden opportunity pass.

Trump sees only his base. Congressmen know that 30% isn't enough to get reelected. Of you get rid of something like Meals-On-Wheels, or the myriad of other extremely popular government supported aid programs, Congressmen know there will be a harsh backlash, because the Dems will use it as campaign fodder that can't be refuted. Couple that with the fact that Trump is showing if we want a wall, US taxpayers are going to foot the bill, not Mexico. As his base comes to the appalling realization that the ACA is nothing more that Obamacare by a different name and the GOP 'replacement plan' us going to cost WAY more and insure WAY less, that they are trying to guy Medicaid and Medicare, the Dems will absolutely destroy the GOP in the mid-terms. Even the Senate won't be safe.

And they also know that Trump most assuredly does not have their back. If it looks like his supporters don't like things enough that they start to be dissatisfied with him, he will immediately blame the GOP and throw them so far under the bus that they won't be able to be elected dog-catcher in Podunk. The one thing that almost every politician treasures more than the good-will of the President is the very real threat of getting thrown out of office.

Aside from certain budget items, they're pretty much in bed with him
