American Crime: Best written show, best acting you will see on free television

The third season of American Crime (written by John Ridley) started last Sunday; the theme is human trafficking.

If you like serious television with a message, and if you like excellent acting, tune in at 9pm CST to ABC. This is my third year watching this series, and I've been riveted to every episode.

You can see week 1 here: http://abc.go.com/shows/american-crime

Trailer for this years show:

I'm sorry, but for the most part, the writing is so tired and formulaic. Written for the lowest common denominator. Everything wrapped up in an hour with a tight little bow....The sitcoms are even worse. Most story lines lifted from the sitcoms of the 70's.....

But the cable networks are putting out some great stuff, inmo. Really enjoyed the first season of Hap & Leonard on Sundance. Taboo was fucking amazing! Thoroughly enjoying Enter the Badlands on AMC (cheesy fun!) and of course TWD, and Better Call Saul. Game of Thrones on HBO.... I tried Under the Dome. Turrible. Revolution. Turrible. I've given up on the big three, personally. But I might have to check out this show based on this thread......

I'm torn what to watch tonight and what to catch tomorrow "on demand". "American Crime Story" or "Feud". "Feud" reruns at 10 CST - but that's when John Oliver is on.

that's only because I was mildly curious about the storyline's ending. I didn't even know there was a second season and I have no intention of watching the third season. I just didn't like it, and I can't put my finger on any one specific thing. I realize I should probably give the third season a chance, since it's a completely different storyline, but my time is limited and there are several other shows to which I'm already giving my limited attention.

I realize it's probably far better than the usual formulaic, annoyingly predictable cop/crime shows (I'm looking at you now, Law and Order and your umpteen spinoffs), and maybe that's why its ratings are so bad.

Secrets and Lies?

I just mean that it might be annoying to watch the two seasons at the same time, with the same actors. I may as well pace myself anyway. There aren't that many good series to watch, IMO.

There is a crime, but the show is more about revealing all the different angles to what happened as well as the causes. There are a lot of layers to it. Very socially relevant and not for the faint of heart.

The same actors (or most of them) are on each season, but in different rolls. Felicity Huffman is a favorite of mine. I just read about the story line. It looks like a must-watch for me in these complicated times.

The stories leave a lot unanswered, and you find yourself wondering what happened to the characters... and then you remember they aren't real people. That is the mark of a well told story.
