Rex Tillerson 'didn't want' State Department job and planned to retire from ExxonMobil in March

Former oilman Rex Tillerson had no desire to be President Trump’s top diplomat, he revealed last week.

The reluctant Secretary of State head was slated to retire as ExxonMobil’s CEO in March and was looking forward to life on the range when Trump floated a job offer.

“I didn’t want this job. I didn’t seek this job,” Tillerson told the Independent Journal Review, the lone news outlet to accompany him on a flight to China.

Tillerson said he now talks to Trump on a daily basis, but he claims to have never met the President prior to the November election. He was “stunned” that Trump wanted him to be the next secretary of state.

Tillerson’s wife, Renda St. Clair, convinced him to do it, he said.

“I was going to go to the ranch to be with my grandkids,” he added.

The controversial interview with the conservative magazine sparked a firestorm for ditching the press corps during his state trip to Japan, South Korea and China, a tactic that appears to reflect Tillerson’s apparent disinterest in the political spotlight.

a lame try at smoothing over his Russia ties and making that 500 B dollar deal with Russia for oil rights work.

Oh look we should pity poor grandpa Rexy he gave up his retirement and divested at the request of grandma.

I will have to say though that with his performance so far of gutting the state department and censoring the press, he should just move on to retirement.

It was an offer too good to refuse, the chance for trillion dollar oil deals. That's all Tillerson has worked for his entire life with not a minute of concern for the environment or human rights- he knows his grandchildren have enough wealth to not worry

Simply because I know many wives in the same position and none would give up the retirement to finally spend time with him and the grandkids. None. This was a mission to enhance his own pocketbook. Nothing less.
