he's saying the previous administration knew this was going on (surveillance)

(92,128 posts)if the US wiretaps some Russians, and Trump aides talk w/those Russians, it doesn't actually mean Obama wiretapped Trump.

(19,559 posts)He's openly admitting that other people were unmasked in the investigation beyond Flynn. Unmasking doesn't take place without a valid reason. That he chose to run to tell Trump who these people people were immediately 'because they were his transition team' is not helping make Trump's team look less guilty.

(19,559 posts)His actions today were in no way about protecting anyone but Trump.
I suspect he's deliberately confusing "unmasking" a person caught speaking and the person they were speaking about. Only the person caught speaking requires unmasking, not the subject of their conversation.

(135,817 posts)it really makes no sense.
it does nothing to exonerate trump in any way.

(19,559 posts)I think this about muddying the waters around this investigation for the general public to give Trump and his team a sense of validity in the public eyes. As I said, Trumps name being mentioned in these reports wouldn't be subject to unmasking. That Nunes tried to toss it out there as if it did is suspicious on its face.

(73,528 posts)This was either a serious error by Nunes, or it was attempting to send Trump a clear message. Both options work.

(10,009 posts)When one of my teenage son's friends was visiting Jerusalem, and other places in the Middle East, I told him to watch his sarcastic texting/email humor. Not worth the possible trouble for a sophomoric joke or comment. These are/were sophisticated adults working on a political campaign and should have known damn well any foreign correspondence might be monitored.

(5,268 posts)Definitely premature, no final conclusions yet in ongoing investigation,. He is dead wrong to be revealing this information to WH about who was caught incidentally in surveillance, before conclusions are reached. He implied some contacts were incidental and unimportant while others could be more serious. First he said definitely that information was collected legally, then he muddied waters saying it would have to be looked at more regarding unmasking and leaks- he's turning investigation into a muddy mess.
